It’s quite a mature and affluent vibe here; restaurants can price out younger couples. Although I think the area has seen an influx of affluent young families in recent years. If you want nightclubs or your doorstep this is not the place; pubs close at midnight on the whole. Most people seem to have either children and or a dog. In the summer people enjoy Dog walks along and or drinks down by the river. Which is lovely but can get very busy. There’s a local sports centre where people play cricket and tennis etc. It’s very quaint down by the duck pond in the centre of Barnes and has food markets etc. Also there’s a nice festive vibe in the winter where you can choose from a number of pubs to enjoy a mulled wine. On the whole a lovely family area but pretty expensive to live here!!
Barnes is very well connected to central London if you’re willing to walk over the bridge to Hammersmith Tube stop. The bridge is closed which some have found has made their commute into town much harder. But those willing to walk over the bridge won’t be affected. Buses run regularly through Barnes in all directions. If you commute out towards Surrey as I do, the A3 provides a rapid route south of London into Surrey. Castelnau did have a heavy traffic issue at certain times of day before the bridge closed. If you commute into town you may want to check out when the bridge is set to reopen!
Arundel Terrace is a very quiet Street to live on considering its proximity to Hammersmith. The street is a dead end so doesn’t get traffic passing through and finding a parking space is rarely an issue. Residents seem to be made up of a mixture of families, couples and retirees. People are friendly and often greet each other on the street. There’s a line of communal bins at the end of the street for mansion block flats which are collected weekly. We recently had an issue with the bin men refusing to pick up the large stack of cardboard for recycling so this piled up. Luckily some friendly neighbours worked together to clear it up; not an unusual display of community spirit on Arundel Terrace. Anti-social behaviour has not been an issue for me but graffiti is increasingly noticeable and I know of a mugging nearby, a bike theft on the street and a number plate stolen from a car. Arguably issues faved by any London street.
Arundel Terrace is situated a stones throw from a row of handy shops including a pub, pharmacy, corner shop, post office, a couple of cafes; there’s a superb Indian restaurant, an Italian and a Chinese takeaway. We are also just a 10 minute walk over the bridge to all the shops etc in Hammersmith and a 20 minute walk back into Barnes village which has a number of pubs, restaurants and a few boutique style shops. If you are looking for busy bars - Barnes is not the place. Amenities are designed to suit family lifestyles.
Hampton is a fantastic place to bring up children
Primaries are brilliant - some of the best - Hampton Hill Juniors is fantastic. Waldegrave Girls is an excellent state secondary but girls only. Boys tend to go to Hampton Community College which does not have a brilliant reputation. Tiffins is amazingly selective to get into - we know children who have got into Hampton and Kingston Grammar (both highly selective independents) and have not got in to Tiffin - unless you have amazing DC and a regular on the G&T thread don't set you heart on it... However Hampton is a fantastic place to bring up children - lots of nurseries, lots of parks and the wide open spaces of Bushy Park. Hampton Hill High St is vibrant and has a fabulous City Farmers Market and not far from Teddington too with its little boutiques and gift shops. Very family oreintated area. Low crime rate.
In hampton we have railway line, connect to London Waterloo, buses 111 connect to Heathrow, R70, connect to Richmond 110 that connect with Hanworth.
Moved to Hampton 5 years ago plus points Good schools Local high street Professional residents Bushy park and Hampton court palace close by Network n rail links Heathrow airport 15 mins away Clean and lots of open space Open air pool Community feel lots of clubs and activities And lots more Negative points Traffic during school n rush hour High street always busy
Hampton is very nice, near the river, kingston, great shopping, good schools. pretty ordinary, but nice, london suburb. as good as the T's, not much in them. traffic around those areas is busy though, depends on what you are used to though. All these areas do however border some rougher areas so you might want to bear that in mind.
There's a Traffic noise but only in the morning
Rush hour happens like 12:00 Pm, you can take the buss on any street but there's a problem with schedule at night.
There's a Traffic noise but only in the morning so it's comfortable for to stay and mostly of people who live here are renters.
There's a Hotel with its own restaurant, nice popular bars and a park where you can walk and feel comfortable with the silence and air. Therefore it's important to care the nice places
It is a very good area
