The atmosphere is not terribly pleasant and I would say that this is one of the poorer areas in London.

Paddington itself is fairly dull, and would benefit from shifting away from catering to the tourists

The street and immediate area is closer to upmarket, but there is a housing estate very close by which can contribute to some rowdiness. The area is suitable for children, but pets that require regular exercise like dogs, would probably benefit from a more rural location. Paddington itself is fairly dull, and would benefit from shifting away from catering to the tourists arriving at the station (with poor chain restaurants and budget hotels). That said, the easy access to a wide range of other areas makes it an ideal base.

Transport

Multiple stations are within a 10 minute walk: Paddington, Lancaster Gate, Queensway, Bayswater etc. Lancaster Gate is the closest and most reliable transport link as there is access to the central line here. Paddington offers access to the bakerloo, circle, district and Hammersmith and city lines. The circle line is the best way for me to travel to work but is so unreliable in the morning that I’ve given up on it.

Community

Our street is a Mews Street made up of a range of renters and owners of all ages and household compositions. The street itself often used as a thoroughfare for pedestrians, which can be frustrating - especially on Friday and Saturday nights when this is loud and drunk passerby’s. Fortunately, bollards at the end of the street mean that cars can not pass through, so we don’t have much traffic noise. Rubbish collections are very regular at twice a week, but recycling collection is once a week and somewhat unreliable. Fortunately there is a waste centre at the top of the road.

Amenities

The area of Paddington is close to multiple other areas that provide an excellent range of amenities. Notting Hill is a 25 minute walk, whilst the shops of Westbourne grove are just a 5-10 minute walk away. Kensington gardens and Hyde park are also close by at a 10 min or so walk away. Westbourne grove and Notting Hill offer a selection of restaurants and pubs; but there is a distinct lack of bars and high quality independent restaurants in the Paddington area. The Cleveland arms is a lovely pub and restaurant , but is the only one in the area. Queensway previously housed whitelys shopping centre, which whilst had only a limited selection, was helpful to have close by. This has now been closed for a refurb, but Queensway does still offer some great Cantonese restaurants and a few useful chain stores like boots and Superdrug. There’s a large Waitrose and planet organic on Westbourne grove, plus a Sainsbury’s local and Tesco express on nearby Queensway.

I love the area I'm in as it's walking distance to some lovely little parts of London eg Little Venice, Maida Vale, St Johns Wood, Marylebone, Paddington & Edgware Road. I suppose I would class the area on my doorstep as multicultural with a strong sense of Arabic influence with Edgware Road being affectionately known as the "mini Beirut" of London with all its shisha bars & Cafes. It has a mix of international and trendyness about it. The area ia suitable for kids and pets with lots of green spaces in the area eg Hyde Park, Reagents Park and there are schools and sports clubs in the area too.

Transport

The area is extremely well connected with 24 hour buses covering most routes and I am 10 to 15 minutes walk away from Edgware Road, Marylebone & St Johns Wood underground stations. There are plenty of cycle lanes on the roads in the area and I am a 15 minutes walk away from Paddington station which has plenty of overground services on offer aswell as easy access to Heathrow airport. The traffic can be bad at times during rush hour but the congestion charge has definitely made improvements in this regard. The stations and buses and tubes are all well maintained and kept clean and to s high standard. The only issue I would have is there is alot of pollution in the area as a result of the all the cars and buses travel through aswell as noise pollution created mainly by being so closely situated to St Mary's Hospital with lots of sirens passing at all times of the day.

Community

The good aspects of living on my street are the regular street cleaners keeping the place nice and tidy. The bin and refuse collection service is on point. There is also a regular presence of police in the area which keeps anti social behaviour down. The area does suffer from noise pollution with regular sirens passing at all times of the day with St Mary's Hospital close by. My street is occupied mainly by familes and couples, more renting than owners. There is afew students in the area aswell.

Amenities

The area is really well connected with 24 hour buses covering most routes and I have Edgware Road, Marylebone and St Johns Wood underground stations all within walking distance and very close by. The highlights of my area include: - walking to the bars, restaurants and shisha lounges on Edgware Road aswell as visiting the shops/markets/restaurants/bars of Marylebone High street which is 15 minutes walk from me. - easy access into the West End (10 mins by tube to Piccadilly Circus) - Madame Tussauds and the Sherlock Holmes Museum are just 10 mins walk away. - you have one of the the world's best parks in Hyde Park close by, and Regents Park, is on my doorstep with its lake, boats, rose garden, cafes, tennis courts and outdoor theatre (in season). - the shops/restaurants of St Johns Wood and Maida Vale are close by aswell as beautiful Little Venice with its canal bars, cafes and boats tours - world famous Lords Cricket ground is just around the corner and perfect for me being a cricket lover! - London's best and most famous gourmet fish and chip shop/restaurant (The Seashell) is in the area also. - it's a 15 minute walk away to Marble Arch and Oxford Street with its plethora of shops including Selfridges, John Lewis, House Of Fraser and many other flagship stores. - just 2 minutes around the corner is Church Street Market and there is some of the best antiques shopping in London in the famous Alfie's antiques market with rooftop cafe. - there are 3 gyms close by aswell as a yoga centre (Indaba). The only 3 criticisms I have of my area are - a lack of a proper police station although there is a police drop in counter on Church Street. - homelessness is rife in the area and particlarly bad and noticeable at night. - also there is alot of noise pollution and regular sirens going by at all times of the day and night with St Marys hospital close by. All in all, I'm really happy with the facilities and amenities available in my area, and love living there with no desire to leave anytime in the future.

The atmosphere is not terribly pleasant and I would say that this is one of the poorer areas in London. However, it is almost central & is not terribly far from oxford street & Regent’s Park. I would not say that the area is suitable for children as it is not very safe.

Transport

There are many public transport options and a tube station (Queen’s Park) very close & easy to use. The cleanliness of these public transport options are average however they are normally on time & working.

Community

Anti social behaviour is incredibly common in this area unfortunately. Traffic noise is not very common & the area is quiet in general unless groups of teenagers are present. There are regular & good bun collections but rarely recycling.

Amenities

There are a range of local shops in w10 however many of these shops aren’t very aesthetically pleasing or clean & organised. There are also a few restaurants however these too are below average. There are a few open spaces in the area such as a park and an outdoor children’s playground.
