Great particularly for families

One thing that seems very important to mention is that there is a community centre on our street that was particularly helpful during the pandemic as they distributed free food parcels to the neighbourhood but they also offer childcare, clubs and trips. There are two parks, a children’s park within the estate (accessible to anyone) and a dog park a minute’s walk further. There is a local shop a minute away, a few pubs and a local sainsbury and tesco and a cinema 10 minutes walk away.

Transport

As I already mentioned, there many train stations within walking distance, making a significant amount of journeys permissable, such as Tower Gateway, Tower Hill, Aldgate, Aldgate East and larger stations such as Fenchurch and Liverpool St, all of which are generally reliable. The traffic can be pretty bad sometimes, particularly from 4-6, but some days you can get lucky. I’d say it’s more an area meant to people who make use of public transport but it is also not impossible to have a car, as we have one. The traffic is not too bad depending on your direction, for example the Highway is pretty busy, the direction of Southwark, Limehouse, but smaller roads such as Leman St, Alie St, aren’t too bad. Buses include 15, 100 and others going in pretty much every direction except towards Limehouse/Docklands. The buses do not come to often however and I would suggest using train.

Community

The only issue with my street would be parking availability is pretty bad, traffic noise occasionally but genuinely not so often. The street is mainly filled with families. Bin collection is pretty good too, with loads of bins around.

Amenities

There are many things in the local area, exciting places to go that are a 5-15 minute walk. Tower bridge and the Tower of London, St Katherine’s Docks with restaurants that have the view of boats and water (particularly beautiful at night) for example Zizzi’s and Kilikiya. Just across the bridge there is The Ivy, Vapianos and more new restaurants to come in that vicinity. Not far from important stations such as Fenchurch, Liverpool St and very close to stations such as Tower Gateway, Tower Hill, Aldgate and Aldgate East. Not to mention Central London is a short drive away.

I have live in e1 my whole life and have wonderful neighbours of all cultures and backgrounds

I love that we have so much culture and history in the area, from brick lane, where you can get the most amazing food, to spitalfields market, to st katharines dock to the Tower of London. All a short walk away. It is amazing.

Transport

Transport links are great in E1 with a range of options- Busses, Underground and DLR. Very easy to get around London. You are never more than 10 minutes away from an underground station. And never more than 5 minutes away from a bus stop.

Community

I have live in e1 my whole life and have wonderful neighbours of all cultures and backgrounds, we have a good parking space and can purchase more if needed from the council. Communal bins are collected regularly. However we do get some traffic noise living so close to the highway but not so much that it is distracting

Amenities

In E1, you will find a range of small corner shops and supermarkets- all the essentials are covered and it has great transport links (buses, tube,DLR) taking you to anywhere you desire as we are so close to central. The area has developed to accommodate unique open bars, small cafes, multicultural restaurants alongside the mainstream popular fast food restaurants. I would recommend St Katharines dock just on the highway for the most scenic views and great independent cafes/restaurants. You get a breathtaking view of tower bridge and the Thames - perfect on a Sunday morning walk or a weekday brunch.

Diverse shops and restaurants BUT THIEVES

I dislike the thieves around my area. They took my phone on Christmas day so I cannot call my extended family. Therefore, I believe that this area is not safe and needs more security/police around. I would not recommend this area for children. I like the shops and the restaurants around. They are very trendy and diverse. There are some green space around.

Transport

Bus and tubes are very near by. The closest tube station is Aldgate and Aldgate east station which is approximately 10 mins walk. Liverpool street station is also within walking distance. Aldgate east trains tends to come less frequently than Aldgate so I tend to go to Aldgate when I'm in a rush. The traffic around the area is typical as there are many offices around Liverpool Street (the area close to EC and E1). I would take the taxi at night because the area can be dangerous at times.

Community

On our street/development there are many renters / officer workers. They are friendly. Around our development there are ,many owners. There are enough green space around and some local park area.

Amenities

Shops are very diverse for example, you can get asian food really easily from local asian shop like yoyo. There are also loads of local Indian shops just a few minutes walk away from where I live. For clothing, there's everything you need around since we live really close to Old Street Market. All we're lacking is a Zara within walking distance. This is a big factor to me because it's my favourite shop. If we take the tube, again very accessible, Zara is not too far away. Restaurants are great. One of my favourites is Amber restaurant. Their bottomless brunch is a must have. Other that I also love brunch restaurants near old Street and Shoreditch, again a few minutes walk away. I personally love Trade Coffee and Somsaa. Bars and open spaces are plentiful. They are typically filled by office workers though, especially on a Friday evening.
