Overview of N16 8PS, Stoke Newington

Up and coming and great for young families. I love the range of amenities and the new cafes have really raised the profile of the area.

Transport

Around Newington Green, there’s a great choice of bus routes. 21 starts and stops at the Green which takes you through Old Street, Margate and down to London Bridge and beyond. 73 straight through to Oxford Circus and 476 to Kings Cross. The buses are so frequent there’s always an option that is not too busy (even during rush hour). Canonbury Ocerground station is approx 6 minutes walk from Newington Green and then there’s also Dalston Kingsland which is equidistant. Night buses also pass through (N21 and N73) quite regularly.

Community

A combination of resident and visitor parking is available, usually with good availability (even on match days). Refuse collection is regular and on time and Islington council are responsive to their clean streets app. If you see dog fouling, report it via the app and they’ll come and clean it. Streets are well lit and well maintained. Seldom do we experience anti-social behaviour as it’s mostly families who live in the vicinity.

Amenities

Newington Green has some amazing food outlets - Perilla (on the corner of Green Lanes) for high end dining, Acoustic Brasserie for a superb brunch (try the Menemen - you will not be disappointed!) and then there’s Lizzy’s on the Green, and Jolene for a superb tasting coffee and cakes. Fancy Italian? There’s Trattoria. How about Natural Wines? We’ve got that too - check out Yield N16. Newington Green itself is lovely in the summer. There’s ample green space to sit and relax, have a picnic or just soak up the buzz around you. The children’s play area is fenced off so it’s safe for children. Just off the green, there’s hair salons galore, barber shops, newsagents, cafes off-licences, fruit and veggies and a laundrette.

N16 is so lively. The green is always full of people reading, walking dogs, sunbathing when the whether is nice. It’s a lovely way to meet people who live locally and it’s right across the street from an exquisite cafe which has the most lightweight gorgeous pastries and the best hot chocolate. It’s a good place to start a family and it’s a relatively safe location. There’s so many restaurants on our street alone so there’s always something to do and most of them are from around the world so there’s plenty of new experiences awaiting.

Transport

N16 is great location wise in that it’s close to everything, and there’s buses going to most areas, including central for days when you want to shop. It’s also close to both an overground and underground station so there’s easy train links , buses and trains come regularly, However there’s usually a small wait on Sundays.

Community

This area mostly houses families and young couples. Neighbours are quite friendly and always up for a conversation. We’re close to all the local shops like Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s so it’s quite quick to do your shopping. The street cleansers come quite regularly so it’s usually quite clean , there’s minimal noise and most people are very respectful

Amenities

There is such a wide range of different shops and restaurants in N16, on one street alone, there’s an amazing Italian restaurant, a seafood restaurant, an Eritrean restaurant (my first experience and it was delightful) and a Turkish restaurant also. There’s also a very popular cafe called Belle Époque, they have the best pastries I’ve ever tasted, it’s like a little slice of France
