Seven minutes in Heaven, that’s N7.

What I most like about my area is that it has a variety of food spots which are Halal. I feel safe in my area as there is no obvious gang activity. The area is also well kept, the streets are regularly swept and there is no graffiti about. The area is suitable for children as there is a lot of green spaces for them to play in, a library with a dedicated children’s area and reputable schools for them to attend. It is also suitable for pets, as there’s green spaces to walk your dog. And we also have plenty of cats in the neighbour so you’re cat doesn’t have to be alone when they roam outside. It is hard to describe the atmosphere of my local area. It is not as trendy as Shoreditch but it does offer a good variety of food places. It doesn’t need regeneration as the area is clean and well kept, with plenty of different facilities people can go to. After consideration I would say it is upmarket as we do have some big houses along our street, even though we do have some block of flats/estates. But the amenities we have are of good quality such as the schools, shops, gyms and public transport. This make our area more desirable.

Transport

We have two main stations. The first is Highbury and Islington Station which has the overground service and the Victoria line. This stations is spacious and clean. And the trains usually run on time. And the second is Holloway Station which has the Piccadilly line. The cleanliness is lacking at this stations but again the service is regular and reliable. The main bus routes that come through are 43, 271, and 393. However, at peak times the busses can get packed quickly as school children and workers make their commute. We also have plenty of cycle routes with bollards along Liverpool road to make a protective barrier between the cars and cyclists.

Community

Our bin collection is regular, usually every Tuesdays in the morning. There is hardly any anti-social behaviour as there is no gang activity. Traffic noise is also low but that’s because we’re not on a main road. Parking availability is good in the sense that every neighbour has an unwritten/unspoken designated parking spot. I would say half of the residents that live on my street are owners and the other half are renters. So a fair and even split. Most of the residents are families and we do have a few couples.

Amenities

We have three large green spaces, these are Highbury Park, Paradise Park and Madras Place church yard. This means plenty of space to walk your dogs, to relax, to exercise, to play sports and to take your children out for fresh air. We also have St Mary Magdalene Church for our Christian residents. And we also have Lower Holloway Mosque for our Muslim residents. We also have Islington Central Library where you can loan books, dvds and cds. You can also use their computers, use their printing services and there is a dedicated children’s area for readying, studying and play. N7 is also home to St Mary Magdalene Academy. It is a nursery, primary school, secondary school and sixth form. It is one of the best performing schools in Islington. We also have a range of gyms these include Highbury Leisure centre which features pool facilities, Better Gym and Bodyjunkies. We have lots of food places, the big name brands include Subway, Nando’s, Costa, Pret A Manger, and McDonald’s. We also have independent food places/restaurants such as the Hope Workers cafe serving full English breakfast. We also have restaurants offering Caribbean cuisine, Greek cuisine, Chinese cuisine, Indian cuisine and Italian cuisine which offer authentic Italian pizza like Zia Lucia. We also have plenty of takeaway chicken and chips shops, corner shops and a chippy. A lot of these food places are Halal which is convenient for Muslim residents. We also have Cookies and Scream which is a vegan and gluten free bake shop. We also have a laundromat. We also have Shell petrol station for when you need to top up your car. And we also have a Post Office. For grocery shopping we can just go further up Holloway Road where there is a big Morrison’s, Waitrose, Iceland and Lidl. We also have medium sized Tesco and Sainsbury’s in the N7 vicinity. We also have clothes shops like New Look, Peacock, James Selby's and Shoezone. We also have Boots and Superdrug’s. And we have an Argos. Overall N7 has a good range and quality of local shops. The amenities which are missing are a mechanics and a car wash service.

Excellent residential street for family/single life close to parks, transport and all you need!

My local area is perfect for families and couples as it's so peaceful and most of the houses are large and spacious with front and back garden space so we cn make the most of living here and have access to all amenities nearby. It really is a pretty and clean street to walk down with newly refurbished houses as well as older Victoria age houses.

Transport

I live close to the 390 and 29/253 bus routes which are very regular even during rush hour. Trains are also pretty regular from overground and underground, just have to bear in mind bus and train can get really busy during rush hour so best to leave with ample time although not so busy right now during pandemic. Cycle routes are also brilliant as new routes have been made along Camden residential roads. Main roads and York way leading to King's Cross and feels very safe to cycle.

Community

On my street we have a real mixture of families/ couples in owned homes, council homes, students and lodgers. Everyone tends to get in well and knows who their neighbours are and we look out for each other if anyone needs help. It's a quiet area with most people enjoying family life but can become a lively street with music and good vibes during the summer. There's always space for parking outside the house and a bicycle shed for cyclists. Bins and recycling bins are collected every 2 weeks and the whole street get their bins out on the same day so we can follow each others lead on what bin is being collected ecah week on bin day.

Amenities

I love my area because its central to everything I need. Good links to transport with bus stops nearby and train station in walking distance. I have grown up in this area and been able to walk to primary school and secondary with friends living on my street. There are several parks within the area for fresh air and great venues and community centres for weddings and parties which my family have used over the years. The great thing I love about my area is that everyone is so friendly, great neighbours who come to help whenever you need a hand, peaceful in the evenings and winters and good vibes in the summer. Corner shops and supermarkets very close by to grab essentials and treats and plenty of restaurants to dine and order takeaway from. I particularly like walking down the Camden canal in Summer and soak in the atmosphere and canal boat community. There's just so much to do in Camden, I would never get bored of living here!

I feel as though gentrification introduce a different vibe to the area

It is not an incredibly safe area. There is a significant amount of gang activity

Transport

The area is very well connected. Many transport hubs are in close proximity.

Community

There is a lot of anti social behaviour so much so patrolling officers is a norm

Amenities

There’s an increasing move towards more gentrified shops and cafés which I welcome. Kentish Town has recently received bad press as a result of a lot of crime in the area last year. I feel as though gentrification introduce a different vibe to the area. A vibe that I think is needed at this point.
