The thing I like most about Harlesden is that there is a strong sense of unity amongst the locals. Most people have grown up here their entire life ( like myself) so we are all familiar with one an another. The area is also very multicultural with people from various countries residing here. I can eat at Brazilian, Jamaican, Polish, Portuguese or Nigerian restaurants all on the same street. I also love the fact that commuting is so easy due to the plethora of travel options. Food shopping is so easy due to the myriad of food shops available and most of them close late which is beneficial for me as I work till 7. I dislike the maintenance of the area and feel like it could be better kept. There is also a noticeable police presence due to some crime and you may not always feel safe living here at all times.
Transport
There are lots of bus stops in the area Meaning you usually will not have to walk far to get to oe regardless of where you live. There are also multiple bus routes which make commuting locally a breeze. If you want to go further out there are two stations, Wilesden junction and Harlesden station. These stations are london overground and Bakerloo line stations and can pretty much get you to any part of London. As there are several schools in harlesden and the surrounding areas, there can be quite a lot if traffic between 3-6 pm
Community
I live in the Church end area of Harlesden and we are a close knit community. All the neighbours know each other and are very friendly. There is a community centre on my street where they have a gym and host various events. My area also has free parking so anyone driving would have a huge advantage. The road is fairly quiet however during the summer there are often events and street parties that can get quite loud. The majority of people who live here are renters as most of the homes are council owned. There are some students here and they tend to live in the 1 bedroom flats, whilst the 2-4 bedroom homes are usually occupied by families.

There are loads of shops in my area (harlesden) and all have extremely close proximity to one an other. There are many local newsagents and corner shops, as well as a medium sized Tesco and Iceland. There is also an Argos which is covidnient as before this one was opened, we would have to travel some distance to wembley or Kilburn.The high road is where most of these stores are located. The only stores I believe are missing are clothes and fashion stores. The ones in the area are quite expensive so an outlet such as primark would do a world of good.

Good public transport links into Central London and overland rail to Euston. The underground station also served o. The jubilee line which means a trip to central London is on the card in less than 15 min

The good aspects are the restaurants and bars there is also a cinema called Lexi cinema It's staffed by local volunteers, sells great wine, and has one of the most eclectic programmes of any cinema in London! In the summer, they also do outdoor cinema in the local parks.

You can see the changes happening around you. The council now has £4 million, which are being spent on upgrading the public realm on Station Road and the centre of Harlesden,following consultation and work with local residents. And there are more and more local activities, and fun stuff going on. All good.
