if anyone wants to find somewhere where it’s quiet but loud at the same time and wants to live in a nice residential area in London, I definitely recommend my area area
Transport
in my area you have access to 3 overground stations, three underground stations, one train link service and an array of different bus routes that go far and wide. All of these transport links are well kept up and are easy to navigate. There’s even a coach that takes you to Luton and Stanstead. The area definitely allows for cyclists but unfortunately I don’t think has dedicated cycle lanes. Rush-hour is definitely chockablock but it does clear up pretty quick. There are a few night buses, as many as you would expect. Overall you can get anywhere you want in London from my area within 40 minutes.
Community
I have never experienced any antisocial behaviour on my street, Noise. Just occasional honking. most people rent I believe and a lot of families live there. Bin collections are regular and there isn’t much parking as it’s dedicated to the people who live there.
Amenities
my local area is amazing, it has so much greenery and Quick access to central London within 30 minutes. There are many charity shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pharmacies for your every day needs. There are even a few churches and community centres so it feels like a close-knit community. i’ve lived there for nearly 20 years aka since I was born and I feel so safe there. There is a mixture of people from all walks of life which I appreciate as it makes Finchley Road more accessible to regular people instead of for example Hampstead High Street having really fancy shops. The other High Street that is local is West Hamstead which is also very beautiful and has great access to everywhere. The residential area is beautiful, the pubs are all still running, and all shops and restaurants are kept up very well. My local area is definitely somewhere you would want to live.
The main vibe of the area is young professional, which is the majority of who you will see on the streets.
The area is a great place to live. The main vibe of the area is young professional, which is the majority of who you will see on the streets. However that being said, there are still a fair amount of children and families and it is a lovely atmosphere for all types of people. It is not so quiet that there is no life or energy, but it is also not rowdy. It’s a very happy area to live and most importantly, I have always felt extremely safe in the area, even at night.
Transport
Transport links in this area are amazing. There is access to the Jubilee line from the West Hampstead station and access to both the jubilee and metropolitan lines from Finchley Road. The jubilee line is quick and reliable, arriving every few minutes. The northern line is also just a 15 minute walk to Hampstead. Finchley Road can be very busy at rush hour, but rarely am I not able to fit into the first train that arrives, even during peak times. There is also good overground access from both Finchley and Frognal as well as West Hampstead and the Thameslink runs from West Hampstead which is particularly convenient for flights from Luton or Gatwick. There are also a variety of good bus routes that can easily be picked up along Finchley Road.
Community
My street is quiet and friendly with neighbors who are polite and not nosey. Bins are also collected very frequently. The residents on the street are a mix of renters and owners. There are a lot of young professional renters as well as a good handful of elderly residents.
Amenities
There is an amazing variety of everything in the area including a small tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose, and M&S all on West End Lane. For bigger shops there is an easily accessible giant Sainsbury on Finchley Road at the O2 center, which also has a cinema. The area also has a good selection of food options across the spectrum from bakeries such as Lolas, Gails, and Ronis, to Nandos, to a few pubs, and two personal favorites, Alice House, and Bobbyfitzpatrick (a lovely 70s themed cocktail bar with some bites to eat as well). There are also multiple fitness options as well as some green space, or just a lovely neighborhood atmosphere for those who love to be outside. The transport links are also amazing. West End Lane truly has everything you could want!
Polluted and boring but with great potential.
The place is in serious need of more greenery. The pollution is bad and there aren’t proper green spaces around. Finchley Road doesn’t have a single tree, it is the ugliest place in the area. I avoid going to the shops there because it is just a depressing sight. There’s a university dedicated to music in Kilburn, not far, and I find it sad that there aren’t more spaces for live music or socialise. My area is very close to central, has great transport links and it has a shopping centre and spaces that could potentially become more interesting. The lack of option for sustainable living is overwhelming, the area could do with something like that, although I fear those things tend to be overpriced. The farmer’s market by the library is a joke, there’s three stalls and two have already made food. The library can’t be used to study because teenagers can’t keep it down and the staff doesn’t give a crap about it. It’s a real shame because the place is huge and has tons of interesting stuff. The gym by Swiss Cottage is okay, but overcrowded so it’s impossible to book anything. The Virgin one in the O2 centre is too expensive.
Transport
Public transport in the area is very good: lots of trains options and buses. There are also good cycling routes. Finchley Road is Sergio though, there’s always traffic, cycling there is disgusting and dangerous.

The best thing about it is the one stop to Euston train as well as the option of the jubilee line. You can be in central in 15min. However, it generally feels safe and I don’t mind walking home alone at night. The Tesco opened until 11 everyday is also very convenient. I’m not sure the kind of people who live in my street but I have seen a bit of everything: families, young people, teens... people in my building don’t seem too social and those who are, have young children. I do think depending on the side of the road you get different things since one side of the road has nice houses and the ones in the other side look like they’re falling apart.
Amenities
There are several shops and restaurants in Finchley Road. They’re not amazing though, three or four pharmacies (do we need that many?) and all the boring coffee places like costa, Starbucks and Pret. The restaurants and bars are not that good either: an expensive kebab place, a yo sushi were they ignore you, and more and more chains. There seems to be a lot but nothin that’s interesting. There is a nice café and a cool Japanese shop by Finchley Road station, Oliver Bonas, Waterstones and Paperchase in the O2 centre, good for buying presents. Saynsburys in the O2 is pretty good, as well as Waitrose. Everything else is just awe full. Towards Kilburn it gets worse although TK Max makes it a bit more interesting. Pubs are nowhere to be found except for the Swiss Cottage (which doesn’t have the best beer, but is better than nothing) and the wine bar by South Hampstead, which is probably one of the best places around. You’ve got to walk far (towards Saint John’s Wood) to see something a little more interesting. There aren’t many green spaces, and Finchley Road is probably one of the greyest places in North London. It’s a road made for cars which everyone who lives around hates.
drawn to the charming village atmosphere, the vast, open, wild green spaces of Hampstead Heath and some of the best schools in London

I like how relaxed it is over the weekend, the hussle and bustle during the week can get tiring.
