I love the amenities in the area: the number of supermarkets, local convenience stores and bars in the area have been such a blessing. There could be more restaurants near Southwark however. The high incidence of anti-social behaviour is also rather off-putting.
Transport
I live in between Southwark (jubilee) and Borough (northern), these two train lines are rather convenient to get to just about anywhere in London. Again, it helps that this area is quite centrally located. The nearest bus station with the most number of buses is, however, a walk away. There is also a lack of night buses which is a shame
Community
Many university students live in my area so the area is bustling all throughout the day. The area is rather clean, there is not much traffic noise and there are adequate parking spaces. There are a high number of cases of anti-social behaviour with phone mugging and catcalling being a norm.
Amenities
In my area of SE1, there is a local supermarket (Co-op, Sainsburys, Tesco) almost at every corner- extremely convenient and a huge plus for residents in the area. On top of this, there are numerous post offices, 24 hour convenience stores, and bars. One of the more popular local areas would be Borough for the famous Borough Market where patrons buy extremely fresh produce, an array of all kinds of cheese and of course, a takeaway box of British Fish n Chips. Walking a little bit past the market would also bring you to an outdoor seating area in London Riverside, close to the River Thames, giving you a marvellous view of Tower Bridge. The area is sadly lacking in large green spaces. However, being so central, it is a very walkable area where the streets are clean and the environment is welcoming so it is still an area that encourages people to get outside despite the lack of a park, for instance. It would also be great if the area could have more asian supermarkets. The one i currently know of in the area is Oseyo in Waterloo, however, it would be nice if there could be more in the area, especially since London is such a diverse city!
It's defo an excellent place to live if you've got the ££ to fork ou
It's defo an excellent place to live if you've got the ££ to fork out, I don't know if I'd live here unless I was sharing the costs with someone, but it's nice to have so many attractions so close by, even if COVID did kinda put a stop to it this year, but luckily I've been living in this are of London for a fair bit, so I know that it's bound to get better (though hopefully everyone doesn't move out of London by the time this whole thing blows over).
Transport
I used to switch busses at rush hour before Covid, but ever since.. It's just been bus full, bus full, bus full, constantly! So I've invested in a bike, and have just been scooting around town ever since. The cycle routes are brilliant, and the cycle superhighways really are pretty awesome once you start using them, not something you'd care about if you weren't a cyclist. Some cycle routes are seperated from the road with ballards and the like, and it gives you some nice peace of mind that you won't get run over by some half awake businessman in a beemer in the morning, but others are not, which is where you often need to keep an eye for your fellow driver (and your fellow cyclist). Overall probably the best way to get around London, definitely the fastest, and most definitely the healthiest!
Community
Lots of restaurants nearby, and a whole load of delivery apps will get it to you pretty quick so definitely a nice place to be if you're too lazy to cook like me! It's a pretty nice area to be on, me and my 3 housemates definitely enjoy it, and being that I occasionally WFH it definitely hasn't disappointing to not have to leave the house at 7.30 each day.
Amenities
Oh man where do I begin! There's just no end to the amount of excellent, and often PACKED restaurants around south bank , and especially along the Thames, nightlife could definitely do with some improvement on this side of town, but there's so many epic markets and shops to visit in the day like the Maltby, and Borough that are a pretty short walk away that it more than makes up for it!
The "Elephant Park" area has provided a range of hip cafes and eateries
There is a clear divide between the dirtier, grubbier side of Elephant & Castle (starting with Walworth Road) and the better-lit, busier side centering on the roundabout. Regeneration is ongoing -- though not necessarily for the same demographics that currently populate the area.
Transport
There is an embarassing amount of choise in terms of transport. Thameslink, two tube lines, and multiple 24 hour buses. The area is also well-connected in terms of cycling lanes. The only eyesore is the Elephant and Castle roundabout -- a clogged traffic nightmare at all hours, but one that planners have been trying to make more pedestrian-friendly.
Community
Elephant and Castle itself is extremely crowded and rowdy. Antisocial behaviour is not uncommon. Additionally, the separation between older, lower-quality blocks of flats and the newer, more expensive buildings -- starting with the Strata -- is obvious.
Amenities
The Elephant & Castle area is in flux. The "Elephant Park" area has provided a range of hip cafes and eateries in the first step towards regenerating the rather grubby and rundown Walworth area. The E&C Shopping Centre is intended to be next. However the amenities are hardly localised to the souher bound of the SE1 postcode. A short walk away, crossing over in Lambeth, is Waterloo Embankment, with the plethora of lounging spaces that have sprung up around the Millennium Eye.
Great are with Borough Market very close and lovely shops around.
