My area is generally quitw safe in the daytime but during the nighttime, there are quite a lot of homeless people around the area and pubs are nearby. This, as a woman, makes me feel unsafe at night as I have been exposed to threatening behaviours while walking home from tube stations. The area is quite upmarket due to the proximity to London Bridge and the Shard. Due to lack of playground facilities it may be hard for some families with children, but there is green space around for dog owners to use if wished - just a bit unsafe.
Transport
The buses in the area are frequent, London Bridge station, which has both Jubilee and Northern lines, is 10 minutes walk, Borough station is a 3 minute walkand has the Northern line, therefore I think transport in my area is generally good. The tube gets quite crowded during rush hour and the carriages are always quite grimy but on the whole it's a decent commute.
Community
There is limited parking availabilty on the streets, there is quite a lot of traffic noise (sirens especially) and sometimes there is loud antisocial behaviour which disrupts sleep (people screaming in the street) Renters mostly live in the area as house prices in this area are high and the area has a high concentration of students due to it being near King's College London. There are not a lot of families around - mostly couples or couples with very young children (toddlers)
Amenities
There are a huge range of restaurants, with Borough Market being a stone's throw away, fast food outlets e.g. kfc being very nearby and lots of street stalls nearby too. There are quite a few open spaces - one near southwark bridge road, one on borough high street and tabbard gardens but I do not regularly frequent these as they are seen to be "dodgy" and be crime hotspots. There are quite a few pubs nearby which are always quite busy. Prices are also reasonable. There are many supermarkets nearby although there is a lack of large ones. There is a post office that is quite busy usually, and I am very close to both Borough Market tube station and London Bridge station. Borough market is always popular, there is a particular falafel stand that is popular near London Bridge due to its quality and cheap price (£3.5 for a wrap) and Dover Castle, a pub, is very popular among students for their cheap drinks.. There is a gym, post office, pharmacy etc. all very close so I do not think any amneties are missing. However, it would be nice if the open spaces were places not so associated with crime and drug use.
It's defo an excellent place to live if you've got the ££ to fork ou
It's defo an excellent place to live if you've got the ££ to fork out, I don't know if I'd live here unless I was sharing the costs with someone, but it's nice to have so many attractions so close by, even if COVID did kinda put a stop to it this year, but luckily I've been living in this are of London for a fair bit, so I know that it's bound to get better (though hopefully everyone doesn't move out of London by the time this whole thing blows over).
Transport
I used to switch busses at rush hour before Covid, but ever since.. It's just been bus full, bus full, bus full, constantly! So I've invested in a bike, and have just been scooting around town ever since. The cycle routes are brilliant, and the cycle superhighways really are pretty awesome once you start using them, not something you'd care about if you weren't a cyclist. Some cycle routes are seperated from the road with ballards and the like, and it gives you some nice peace of mind that you won't get run over by some half awake businessman in a beemer in the morning, but others are not, which is where you often need to keep an eye for your fellow driver (and your fellow cyclist). Overall probably the best way to get around London, definitely the fastest, and most definitely the healthiest!
Community
Lots of restaurants nearby, and a whole load of delivery apps will get it to you pretty quick so definitely a nice place to be if you're too lazy to cook like me! It's a pretty nice area to be on, me and my 3 housemates definitely enjoy it, and being that I occasionally WFH it definitely hasn't disappointing to not have to leave the house at 7.30 each day.
Amenities
Oh man where do I begin! There's just no end to the amount of excellent, and often PACKED restaurants around south bank , and especially along the Thames, nightlife could definitely do with some improvement on this side of town, but there's so many epic markets and shops to visit in the day like the Maltby, and Borough that are a pretty short walk away that it more than makes up for it!
The "Elephant Park" area has provided a range of hip cafes and eateries
There is a clear divide between the dirtier, grubbier side of Elephant & Castle (starting with Walworth Road) and the better-lit, busier side centering on the roundabout. Regeneration is ongoing -- though not necessarily for the same demographics that currently populate the area.
Transport
There is an embarassing amount of choise in terms of transport. Thameslink, two tube lines, and multiple 24 hour buses. The area is also well-connected in terms of cycling lanes. The only eyesore is the Elephant and Castle roundabout -- a clogged traffic nightmare at all hours, but one that planners have been trying to make more pedestrian-friendly.
Community
Elephant and Castle itself is extremely crowded and rowdy. Antisocial behaviour is not uncommon. Additionally, the separation between older, lower-quality blocks of flats and the newer, more expensive buildings -- starting with the Strata -- is obvious.
Amenities
The Elephant & Castle area is in flux. The "Elephant Park" area has provided a range of hip cafes and eateries in the first step towards regenerating the rather grubby and rundown Walworth area. The E&C Shopping Centre is intended to be next. However the amenities are hardly localised to the souher bound of the SE1 postcode. A short walk away, crossing over in Lambeth, is Waterloo Embankment, with the plethora of lounging spaces that have sprung up around the Millennium Eye.
Great are with Borough Market very close and lovely shops around.

It’s quite a quiet area which as a student isn’t great but is good for families.
