There isn’t much sense of a community in this area. Although the area is nice, it is ruined by the crime. The area is kept nice, not run down because the people in the area keep their houses looking nice and tidy. Overall, the pros and cons weigh each other out and it is not a bad place to live!
Transport
One of the best perks of this area is the transportation. Although there is no local train station, the buses will take you anywhere you need to go. If in need to a station, a short 7 minute bus journey will take you to Elephant Castle station. The buses are frequent (especially to west end) and not always over crowded (only in the morning with school children). Transportation is very accessible.
Community
Good aspects of this Street is that it is very quiet and there is not much noise pollution around. The bad thing about this is that in exchange, there tends to be quite a bit of crime. Recently we have seen an uprise in muggings and burglaries. The people who live on this street are mainly families, there are one or two student homes but none that cause any issues. All the houses have their own parking space and there is road parking which you need a permit for (but free after 6:30pm on weekdays - free on weekends).

The area is very good for families as there are many supermarkets around ranging from Tesco, Asda and Lidl. There are not many bars around but are within walking distance from the likes of Bermondsey Street and Elephant Castle where there are plenty of bars. Old Kent Road has a range of shops with nail salons, restaurants and dessert places. Though it is not the most glamorous area, there are many run down shops and homeless people who stay outside of Tesco. The nicer area is Bermondsey Street which leads up to Tower Bridge. It is very trendy, full of young people and nice bars and restaurants and bakeries.

I love this area and I always suggest it to my friends. We have 2 beautiful park ideal for walks, and a few smaller green areas perfect for a quick dog walk in the evening. It’s not very trendy, however a short walk toward tower bridge takes you to the arches, with multiple pubs.
Transport
Super happy with the transport links - bus no 1 takes me all the way to central London and Oxford street, jubilee line is just 10 mins walk. If I need to get in other direction and don’t feel like catching a tube, there are multiple bus lines to choose on the old kent road.
Community
We never struggle with parking availability on our road, however it can be a little tricky to park in the area as all the spots are permit only. It was never an issue for me since I prefer to walk and not drive. I heard about some anti social behaviours and sometimes hear a police siren, but never on my street. Only issue would be the occasional dog waste not picked up by the dog owners. My neighbours are mostly elderly house owners, who are very friendly.

The selection of shops is amazing, I very rarely need to get out of Bermondsey for my essentials. Just 2 mins always from my place I have Tesco and Iceland, and 2 international food markets. If I need to make bigger shopping, 10-15 mins walk there’s Asda, another Tesco and Lidl. When it comes to the restaurants, I’ve never really been to any in the area, but the pub selection is rather spectacular!

Very poor, only one train line which gets you into London and most weekend there are engineering works so you a more less stranded for transport. Buses are a waste of time, living so close to central London you will be lucky to find a bus to take to to London Bridge or anywhere else

Run down area, full of empty wear houses. Walk way from south bermondsey station is not safe and looks tired
