My kids can walk to their school. For commuting, my wife and I use the London Overground to get to work - my wife has to do a couple of changes, but we get to most places we want in London in under 45 minutes.
Community
Deptford and New Cross have a good vibe about the areas. We actually live really close to the center of London, but there is still a good community spirit. The kids are really happy living here.
Amenities
It's handy, with young kids, having some parks nearby as we don't have a big garden. My oldest spends loads of his time at the skatepark. It's also handy that there is a huge Sainsbury's nearby. We're also happy with the school our children attend, though there isn't loads of choice in our catchment area so it can be hard to get the school you want.

walking distance there are local buses and they run very regularly 10-15 minutes and even run throughout the night so you can always get to where you need to. traffic can get busy in the early mornings and mid evening. just like anywhere. train station is a 10 minute walk which takes you to central london.

free parking and there’s always somewhere to park. please keep personal belonging out of sight just like anywhere you leave your car. nice quite street and lovely neighbours been there for years.

At the top of my road is a kfc restaurant which has a variety of food and is on your door step I also live near a market which has all my go to bits it has a great atmosphere Ie. butchers/pubs/shops.
