The most appealing aspect of the area is definitely the proximity to the river Thames. Living by such a body of water is a privilege few Londoners are lucky enough to enjoy. The area can get eerily quiet at night, which can be a bit scary. Having said this, families are plentiful and the area is relatively safe. Many families have pets and you can be sure to bump into a fair few residents out walking their dog at any given time of day.
Transport
The area has decent transport links, with two overground stations and one underground stations within walking distance. However, to those residing further north-east, the journey is quite a trek. Bus routes servicing the area are plentiful, and reasonably regular. They are well maintained, and manage rush hour times well with no customer left on the curb.
Community
Parking availablity is reasonable - the majority of residents park off-road in gated car parks. Single yellows are plentiful and abundantly available during the evenings outside of restricted hours. The area is blissfully quiet and does not suffer anti-social behaviour often, although occasionally this does occur. This is a great area for families and indeed many families reside on this street.
Amenities
The local area boasts some stunning views over the river Thames, and there are a number of green open spaces situated within comfortable walking distance. Nestled in the heart of SE16 is Stave Hill Ecological Park - a beautiful and tranquil open expanse, frequented by locals and visitors to the area alike for its scenic greens and water features. Rotherhithe tunnel, only one of two river crossings (for cars) in East London is located conveniently nearby for a quick and easy trip north of the river. For those without a car, the area has fairly good transport links with two overground stations and one underground, and a number of bus routes servicing the entire area. Surrey Quays shopping centre is the local hang-out for the area youth, and a great place to grab a cheeky takeaway. The area could use a station to the North East, as all train stations are clustered to the south west.
I'm proud and very happy to live on the Isle of Dogs!
I love living here! Compared to many other areas of London, the area where I live in west Isle of Dogs ('the island') is primarily residential, and feels quiet, safe and peaceful. As it's only local traffic on the roads that run past me, the noise and pollution from traffic is very low. And with the river just to the west of me and docks on the other three sides, I feel surrounded by water, which probably helps to keep the air clean and fresh and adds to the sense of tranquillity. The local community is very mixed, representing a range of ethnicities, ages, family types and income levels, and everyone seems to get along quite happily. Local shopping is excellent, with a mixture of small independent shops along Westferry Rd., several supermarkets near Crossharbour and South Quay DLR, and the underground shopping malls at Canary Wharf which offer yet more supermarkets as well as numerous well-known high street brands, and all with 15 mins walk of my home! We have a number of green spaces on the island, including Sir John McDougall park, which is right on the west riverbank by the Thames Path, and Mudchute Park (& city farm) and Millwall park with its football pitches and playing fields. And beautiful Greenwich Park is only a short DLR ride away, south across (under) the river. Partly thanks to the location of the Isle of Dogs, public transport connections are probably the best of anywhere in the capitol. There are several bus routes that run around the perimeter of the island. And you're never far from a DLR station, as the line runs north-south through the centre of the island. The DLR connects you with the City to the west, to Stratford (more shopping!) and Stratford International (Eurostar to Europe!) to the north-east, and, going east, to London City Airport and as far as Beckton on the north side of the river, to Woolwich Arsenal on the south side, and to Lewisham in the south east. Also, you can interchange with the underground at Canary Wharf (Jubilee line, which runs north to the O2 dome on the Greenwich peninsula and also south, connecting with the major rail hubs of London Bridge and Waterloo). You can also change between the DLR at Greenwich station and the overground national rail services running west to London Bridge, the City and Bedford (for Luton Airport), and east into Kent. Seriously, the transport connections from the Isle of Dogs are amazing! Another thing about this area is how dynamic, forward-looking and progressive it is; in recent years numerous new residential developments have sprouted like mushrooms in the Canary Wharf area, and by New Providence Wharf, and along north Westferry Rd, South Dock and Millwall Inner Dock, and yet more are planned in the next few years (e.g. along Millwall Outer Dock), so the area is becoming increasingly residential, as well as showcasing some of the newest and most exiting modern architecture in all of London. The area always looks so modern, shiny and futuristic that you can never forget you are actually living in the 21st century - unlike in many older areas of London that probably haven't changed much in several decades at least! It's hard thinking of any negative points about living here, but I suppose one thing I could mention is that, outside of the Canary Wharf area, the number and range of options for eating and drinking seems to be rather limited. But I am confident that this situation will improve as the residential developments and population of the island continue to grow. I wish I had discovered this area many years ago, and I felt totally at home very soon after moving here. I honestly can't think of many places in London where I would rather live, if any.
There needs to be regenration as there isnt enough local amwnities near bye.

Transport
There are not enough transport links in the area. Youll have to travel miles to get in the bus or train. Which is very annoying. However it is very clean. There is definitely lack of night bus.
Community
Good asoects is that it is safe to live in the area there are lots of cctv cameras which gives me a peace of mind. There are moslty couples and families living here. The bad aspect is there is sometimes anti social behaviour.
Amenities
There arent any local bars or shops or restaurants nearby. There are many open sapces which i go myslef and relax and enjoy nature.
I'm absolutely in love with the views, I wouldn't change them for anything
