The road with the fantastic park

Once in a while the grass in the park is mowed and for people with hay fever it could be a problem as it could irritate your eyes and nose. also there are some parts of the park that could use work. The area itself is very safe and lively though. There is a calisthenics gym inside the park that is free for all and a better gym within walking distance for people who want an actual gym. There is a pond in the park, a children’s play area with a paddling pool only open in the summer and a park cafe. Most importantly there is a band stand further into the park where the community band plays at in occasionally and in that area winter and summer feats are thrown every year

Transport

Unfortunately the nearest tube station is Brixton station so the fastest way is catching a bus there but in the positive side there are 2 thamslink overground train stations within 10 minutes of my house. Loughborough Junction and Denmark Hill Station. Furthermore Brixton is like a central part of south london so you can find a lot of busses going to most parts of london from there without really having to switch. But even without that Brixton tube station is simple to navigate as it is very linear it is the Victoria line’s first/last stop. and can take you to a station with a line you need. There is also Brixton overground. Camberwell also offers a lot of busses and it is very quick to get to the river from camberwell almost a straight line on the bus. Both Brixton and camberwell have so much to offer in terms of transportation and are both very close to the road. But if you can’t walk there are busses that can get you to each destination even faster such as the P4, 68, 176, 185 etc

Community

South is normally seen as a dangerous area especially around Brixton and camberwell/Peckham. But the area of herne hill and especially SE5 is a quiet little peaceful hub that sits right in front of a park. The community is very kind and there is a church down the road. It is very safe. There is also access to lots of transportation to even St Albans with the Thameslink. The main negative would have to be the noise that can be experienced some times. The park is quite popular especially in the summer or hotter days so there is always some kind of noise. And at night some people will still e in the park. It’s not too bothersome though. Foxes can also be an issue as they sometimes raid Bins

Amenities

There are quite a lot. I am right in between camberwell green and Brixton so as you can imagine there are quite a lot. I live right in front of Ruskin park and a short distance form brockwell park. Lots of corner shops but also tesco and co op food. If I travel a bit further there is a large Lidl and Sainsbury’s and tesco. There is a large array of places I can visit. I can’t really think of anything in particular that’s missing.

Amazing parks; lots of activities; diverse community and a place where everyone can feel at home

I most like how everything I need is close together, the shops, the park and the train station are all very close. The lido in the summer is could be one if my favourite things; I love how theres just so much to do, but unfortunately, to an expense. The area is very multi cultural and diverse; there are people from all places and all ages. You can be who you are and not be judged as everybody is used to diversity. "Off The Cuff" is a trendy bar with live music that hosts No ID where local bands play mostly rock while teens and older dance and have a mosh pit while adults stand at the back at watch. It's extremely fun and definitely worth the £4 needed to enter. One bad thing is that there are thieves and quite a few homeless people. A guy actually told me he was planning on stealing my bike before I came to unlock it. He walk around Herne Hill and upper Tulse Hill with a balaclava rested on his head like a hat and sells stolen bikes to locals. So if you have a nice bike, bring a good lock. Overall, I love this area and plan on living here as long as possible.

Transport

Herne hill has it's own station with the southeastern line and Thames link. The trains are reliable and the platform is well cleaned and in good condition. Many buses pass through Herne Hill although there can be terrible traffic sometimes and when there is, your better off walking or taking the train. The best way to get around herne hill is on a bike or scooter. It's a life saver being able to skip traffic and get anywhere you want with reliable timings. Overall, theres good public transport only that the buses are slow when there is traffic which is usually on Saturdays.

Community

My road is quite quiet mostly, with occasional wails from foxes in the night, bin collectors come once a week and there is decent parking availability. Most of the people that live on my road are extremely friendly. There are many couples and families and we have a street party most years where we shit off the street with the council's permission and everyone gets together and socialises with food and lots of activities where kids can play and meet other kids that live on the street. Anyone and everyone is welcome.

Amenities

Herne Hill has absolutely everything an area needs. It has: A train station, mini supermarkets, corner shops, pubs, restaurants, a huge park, a farmers market every Sunday, barbers, a post office, a range of schools nearby, bakery shops as well as butchers and a lot of other interesting businesses. The is a bar with live music and a hidden stage beside it which hosted many events before covid called Off The Cuff. Brockwell park has it's own bmx track along with tennis courts, a cafe, a paddling pool, a flower garden to relax in, a playground and even a BETTER(a company) gym, and a large swimming pool in The Brockwel Lido. On sunny days the park and herne hill centre can get very busy but it's what you would expect in London anyways. The one thing that it's missing (but is definitely not an essential) is an indoor skate park. It would give the young generation a good reason to get outside, find passions and excersize even when it rains.

Not a bad place to live in in London but not without its drawbacks

Neither trendy nor upmarket but having lived in various areas in London including Mayfair and Bermondsey, the pricing is reasonable (rent, supermarkets, commuting costs). Still close enough to the central but remote enough to find tranquility in local parks and residential roads. Beautiful architecture in some areas and nice city skyscrapers view from Ruskin park.

Transport

Plenty of choices A bus that goes straight to Shoreditch via City, good connection to other parts of London. Overground stations within short walking distance and a short bus commute to Brixton station although feels a bit too far for the nearest tube.

Community

I am not aware if the people around are owners but definitely no student type of population, mostly young professionals. Noise is present from a couple of main roads nearby. Can get loud due to the younger population and also witnessed a few drug dealing situations on the street. Bin collection is regular, weekly. Cannot comment on parking as I don’t drive.

Amenities

Anything from those on the cheaper side including popular takeaways to the chains like Wagamama. There are also some unique and reasonably priced cafes like Johnny’s with American diner style food served. Good coverage of supermarkets but no upper market like M&S or Waitrose nearby.
