It's a trendy and slightly upmarket area that's definitely full of 20-somethings like myself, although it does have a good amount of families! I enjoy it, but the high streets are definitely geared towards this demographic with loads of bars, pubs and restaurants. It's as safe as any other borough in London - I feel pretty safe here but you do have to keep your wits about you in the dark. All things considered, I would definitely recommend SW12.
Transport
Transport is great, being on the Northern line either by Balham or Clapham South is really useful for getting into central. These are reliable and regular. The bus routes leave something to be desired - they seem unnecessarily complicated and a bus route to, say, Fulham or Streatham or Brixton would be brilliant. You're so close also to places like Peckham or Dulwich, but you need to go all the way up to Clapham Junction to access this - bus routes please!!! Cycle routes I don't take myself much, but my housemates cycle to work and seem happy with them. The hill is tough but that's on us...

I can always get parking and it is affordable. Security could be better, I have heard of car/van breakins, although that is fairly common in London. Traffic noise is fine for living on a main road. Bin collections definitely reflect a cheaper Council Tax, which we can't complain about - but recycling clearly isn't separated, and streets are regularly messy after collections. I believe our street is mixed for owners/renters; a good mix of flats and houses as well, with many more houses once you get into the back streets and suburbs. Good amount of renters though, and in a fairly affordable price point for the area!

I love living in SW12! It's bustling and vibrant whilst also having a good amount of useful shops - you can't beat having three supermarkets on Balham high street. I haven't lived here for to long so am still exploring the various independent places but so far so good, there's plenty of places to eat and drink, although there's definitely room in the market for some smaller independent food shops as it would be nice to support an (affordable!) local sometimes. Once you get to the Wandsworth Common end it's not quite as busy but there are definitely some lovely pubs, and having both Wandsworth and Clapham Common on your doorstep is wonderful. Balham high street is popular for obvious reasons. The organic food shop is good if overpriced - it would be great to have a lower-waste or refill etc. shop in the area.

I love living in this area. It's pretty clean and quiet and properties are generally well maintained. Schools are good, the open spaces accessible and the charm of the local shopping streets together with the transport links is what brings people here. Many people keep dogs, even the mess is minimal although occasional owners are careless with their little black sacks. The commons do attract dog walkers however there is a limit to how many dogs can be walked at any one time.
Transport
Transport links are excellent, with Clapham Junction a short bus ride or within walking distance and the Northern Line close by. Buses are frequent and with a range of destinations, it is easy to get about, however they are often busy . Santander cycle docking stations are in the area. Traffic is a pain however, sometimes it is necessary for us to use our cars. Many residents choose to cycle, there are many official cycle routes.
Community
Our street is a combination of rentals and owners, with families and young professionals mainly. Although there is a broad age range of residents. Parking is by permit Monday to Friday although it can still be tricky to find a parking spot near our homes. The bin collection service is exceptional with operatives extremely helpful and friendly. The street lighting is good. Residents do know each other and this can only lead to improved security. Anti social behaviour is minimal .
Amenities
The range and quality of local shops is amazing, as with the bars and restaurants. Northcote Road is a great place to shop , with smaller shops including independent businesses and chains and a street market at the end of the week and at weekends. Webbs Rd is also great to visit with specialist shops including, lingerie, sound systems, gallery to name but a few. There are also hairdressers and beauty therapists, more than one choice of each. In both streets the quality of coffee in the independent cafes is exceptional. This is a very friendly, family orientated area. The green spaces are vast and very well used by families and those seeking physical activity. Both Clapham and Wandsworth Commons have active groups of local volunteers who help with the upkeep of both spaces.

Connections are fine, not something I have an issue with, I tend to avoid public transport when I can, but when I do get it it really is not so bad and trains are frequent

At weekends it can be loud and noisey and people feel like its OK to leave their thrash behind and leave the streets a state. the direct neighbours are fine its more the passing drinking crowd.
Amenities
You can find everything you need, but there are too many lower end take-aways and stores and not enough bespoke boutiques and cocktail bars, its all a bit laddish and beer focused.
