Overview of SW12 9RU, Rossiter Road, Balham

I like Balham alot, it has everything you could possibly need from supermarkets, to restaurants and quirky pubs and cafes. Transport links are good and a sense of community here, particularly in the summer is where Balham shines when everyone is piled out onto the streets drinking and eating! Great area for young professionals as very up and coming yet feels like a town rather than London. Less 'concrete', feels like a safe area for women, young children. Great for anyone with pets as 3 large commons nearby.

Very good links: Tube: Balham (Northern) 5 min walk, Clapham South (Northern) 7 min walk National Rail: Balham (links to central London, Clapham Junction, Greater London) 5 min walk Busses: 155 to Elephant and Castle/Tooting, 355 to Brixton and Mitcham, 255 to Streatham and Balham, G1 Streatham to Clapham Junction Could have more bus links to areas like Putney, Wimbledon, Peckham, Fulham and Central London

Community

Good - parking, bin collections is very often, no problem with overflows. Relatively quiet as just behind main road. Bad - As I live on a ground floor flat, people always buzz and can hear neighbours above and people entering/exiting building. Sometimes hear sirens at night. Mostly renters where I live but all quiet and keep selves to themselves, either young couples/professionals or elderly. Some young families nearby.

Amenities

There is a good range of convenience stores and supermarkets within a 10 min walk: M&S, Coop, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Aldi. Short walk from 3 huge commons, nice to get a change of scenery and some greenery! Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Common all within 15 mins. Transport links are excellent. 5 mins to Balham tube (northern line, also a 24hr service), National rail links to central London, Clapham Junction and suburbs. Many bus routes into neighbouring towns are very frequent. Neighbourhood itself is a very friendly area, young professional demographic with some families too. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and cosy pubs complete with pub gardens too! Hildreth street is brilliant, its pedestrianised so that all the eateries open out their seating onto the cobbled road, farmers market and plants sold here every week. Only thing missing for me is, more food takeaway shops e.g. LEON, ITSU and essentials stores e.g. WILKO

The area is suitable for children and pets as it is a family based area. The atmosphere is great, everyone is friendly and very positive.

Transport

The best thing about living in Balham is probably the transport links. We have a good amount of buses and there is a train and underground station very close to each other.

Community

My street definitely gets quite busy on the weekends as it’s very close to lots of food shops. There’s a nursery just down the road and a dentist so you do see lots of people walking round.

Amenities

Area is decent, lots of food shops situated very locally, lots of take aways too which is very handy when ordering in. Loads of bars on the high street too but I do prefer going to different areas.
