Something for everyone

The local area has a real sense of community with something for everyone- young people, families and older residents. We are friendly and open to all. The area has not lost its original charm but has been regenerated and is much safer and cleaner than before.

Transport

Extremely well connected with the SWR station Earlsfield (3 minutes from Clapham Junction, 11 minutes from Waterloo), the district line at Southfields and the Northern line at Tooting all within a short distance. There are also buses direct to Putney, Victoria and Waterloo for cheaper travel 24 hours a day. There are Santander bikes to rent outside Southside shopping centre. The main junctions at Garratt Lane and Magdalen Road and Penwith Road and Earlsfield road can become busy at rush hour.

Community

There is a variety of people living on our street. Young family homeowners, older residents who have been in the area for many years, and young renters. It is family friendly. Being close to the main street and station the area can be busy with deliveries, workers and people passing throughout the day, all week, but it is very peaceful at night. There are resident parking restrictions 9-4 on weekdays with lots of spaces and the option to pay as you park. There is free parking at weekends. Bins are collected weekly although we sometimes have passers by flytipping near the station.

Amenities

Earlsfield has an assortment of independent cafés, bars, restaurants, beauty salons and shops. There are two good supermarkets plus an independent deli and butcher's - Dugard and Daughters - which stocks an impressive range of high welfare produce. Earlsfield residents can take advantage of being located in the middle of Garratt Lane, with plenty more retailers, pubs and restaurants to choose from. Highlights are the Earlsfield, with its range of world beers and wines and excellent pub grub, Amrutha all-you-can-eat vegan, Bean & Hop brunch and coffee, Marina fish bar and Blume florists. Located at each end of Garratt Lane are Wandsworth and Tooting, with more shopping options at Southside (including Waitrose, Planet Organic and the Sainsbury's superstore) and the excellent Tooting and Broadway markets for independent shops, bars and restaurants. King George's park along the Wandle river is an excellent outdoor space with tennis courts, a lake, children's play areas and skate park. It is also a short walk from the beautiful Wandsworth common.

a friendly and welcoming area with a 'village' feel with good transport links.

We have lived here for over 2 decades now and have brought up our now teenage children here. Both children attended local state schools and received a well rounded education. There are always reports of local incidents but on the whole we all feel safe in the area, and I am happy for my teenagers to travel alone at night. It's great for pets... lots of local dog walks and an active feline population. On the whole the area is extremely friendly and welcoming, with a strong family feel. It is a shame to see so many empty shops on Garratt Lane at the moment, but I think this is something all areas are struggling with in toay's climate

Transport

Earlsfield station is serviced extremely regularly, and is only 15 minutes to Waterloo, so commuting is easy. South Western trains doesn't have the best reputation, but when they are running, they are reliable and overall to good standard. That said, peak rush hour can be extremely busy and you can expect to have to wait for a couple of trains before you are able to find space to squeeze on. Excellent local buses to Tooting, Wandsworth, Putney, Clapham and beyond. Cycling feels safe with most main roads in the area having dedicated cycle lanes. No London Underground station but Tooting Broadway is a short bus trip away

Community

Parking on the whole is okay, it is permitted, but only for one hour a day... there are times when it can be difficult (when worshippers are at the local temple for example) but otherwise it is fine. Our street on the whole is extremely quiet with little to no through traffic. Despite being so close to 2 main roads you don't actually notice them much. The majority of the residents in the street are homeowner families, with the odd rented houseshare. It is extremely quiet at night. There are concerns over whether this will change with the development of Wimbledon stadium although residents have been assured we will not be affected Refuse collection is weekly and usually without incident.

Amenities

Earlsfield is lucky to have several fabulous independent shops alongside a few local supermarket outlets so there is little need to take to the car for your daily needs. There are several good parks with children's playgrounds as well as the Wandle trail and Wandsworth common is only a short walk away. There is a strong community feel to the area which is reflected in the popularity of local businesses who all work hard to support the local community where they can. Personally I would love to see an independent greengrocer in the local area, as this is the only amenity for me that is lacking as we already have gift shops, wonderful independent cafes, pharmacies, library, an incredible butchers.... All in all, a friendly and welcoming area with a 'village' feel with good transport links. Perfect for families and young professionals looking to settle

This area needs some diversity and more shops!

Transport

Very close to earlesfield station and loads of buses around. No dedicated cycle routes. But all amenities are clean and relatively reliable

Community

It can be very noisy with lots of trucks and general traffic. However there is a Good sense of community in the area.

Amenities

There is a wide range of pubs in the area and many local barbershops. The area around Earlesfield station is busy but could do with a Waitrose or M&S

I’d like to see a little more regeneration and the roads to be redone.
