The ins and outs of Brixton, the best place South of the river!
All in all, my favourite thing about Brixton is that it’s area with a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds, which is what makes it a uniquely vibrant place to live. You won’t see me moving away anytime soon! The atmosphere in Brixton is definitely one of rapid gentrification - you can see the way in which it has gone rapidly upmarket in recent years, but has worked hard to retain it’s original character, and not lose sight of its roots. As with most inner London places, I wouldn’t necessarily called Brixton the most child friendly area, but then again I haven’t personally researched the local schools, which I’m sure are very good. Objectively speaking, Brixton’s probably not the safest area either, but I personally rarely feel unsafe in Brixton due to the volume of people always out and about. Also, I’d say it’s definitely good for pets with Brockwell Park so close by.
First things first, it’s transport heaven, with the super frequent Victoria Line (you never seem to be waiting longer than a minute!), and in non-COVID times, there is night tube every 10 minutes which is great. Brixton is very well served by buses, which go just about anywhere. I work in East London, and it is a little frustrating that the overground line passes over Brixton, but there is no station - if I want to use it I have to walk to Clapham High Street which is not ideal. Also, I’m a keen cycler and don’t feel like the 2 Santander Bike docking stations in central Brixton is anywhere near sufficient for the demand they get - they’re always empty in the mornings! I would like to see maybe 2-3 more dotted around. Brixton rush hour is not too much of an issue as it’s the end of the Victoria Line so I always get a seat, although the times I have used a rush hour bus there is definitely always a lot of traffic. I like the cycle superhighways near Brixton, they make me feel a lot safer when biking.
I live on Atlantic Road, so there is never a quiet moment! Either trains are coming and going, or people are using the shops below/going to Brixton Market or the Village Market. We have double glazing so I don’t really mind it, if anything I enjoy the character living in Central Brixton brings. I don’t own a car so can’t comment on parking availability, but the benefit of living just off Brixton Market is instead of having our own wheelie bin, the protocol is to leave our bin bags on the street where they are collected multiple times a day, so we never have an issue with things like running out of space in our bin. Most of the neighbouring shops haven’t converted their upstairs into apartments, so besides the flat above us we have no immediate neighbours, which is great. Both us and the flat above rent, and all of us are in our 20s.
I live in SW9, Brixton, and it really is food heaven. I always pick up my fresh fruit and veg from Brixton Market on Electric Avenue, and it’s great to support the local traders. Also, every world cuisine you could want is in Brixton Village Market - my favourite is Okan, which does Japanese Okonomiyaki pancakes. Brixton also has all the convenience stores like Pret and Brixton, which is great when I’m dashing to work. The charity shops (Barnardos, British Heart Foundation etc) are a great browse, and always have some interesting clothing/furniture finds. I love the Ritzy cinema too, it’s great for seeing arthouse films as well as new releases. For green space, Brockwell Park is (literally) a breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of central Brixton - it’s great for morning runs, and some parts of the park give fab views of the London skyline. One amenity that would be nice is a Morrisons close by, since I get 10% off shopping with my NHS staff card.
My street is really quiet but really close to Brixton center and Acre Lane.
I have been living in Brixton for the past 16 years and the area changed a lot. Used to be pretty rough and now it s almost trendy. It s good that has been changing keeping its folklorist mood and became a fun place.
Brixton is really good place in terms of transport. From main road you can catch a bus or night us that bring you in central London in 40/30min or to Clapham Junction where you can find lots of train from different destination. There s the tube with Victoria line which one of fastest tube line and very well connected to others. In few minutes you can be in Vauxhall where there s lots of trains departing from there. There a train station with trains that go to Victoria, Bromley South, Orgpington , only shame those are not connecting directly to Gatwick Airport.
My street is really quiet but really close to Brixton center and Acre Lane. In my block there are almost just studio with couples or single people. It s a residential area. Overall really good living in here as we have quiet and peace at home but we can reach restaurants, transport and pubs really quick.
In SW9 there are lot of different places to eat and drink out. Near my house there s an excellent pub called Trinity Arms. I love their garden beer and they have an excellent Sunday roast. I really like this pub as usually is not that crowded. Near on Acre Lane there is Barrio, which is good for cocktails and drink, Spanish style they offer tapas as well, but it can really busy on week ends. A little up there the Blues Kitchen you can go there for a meal, burgers are good, drinks and dance a little bit but usually it's really busy. One of my favourite is the POP Brixton which is offering range of street food and drinks from various places. My top one for an evening in Brixton is Lost in Brixton , top roof pub in the market. You can order drinks and food from Brixton market restaurants.
Theres great atmosphere around
Brixton have the greatest society pf jamaican people the are the really friendly and always encouraging ypu to try new food and aspects of their lives its great fun
The greatest stacion that you can take to transports around central london its brixton stacion apart from that the buses are quite good and on point if you miss one another will be there in about 5 mins or less
Theres great atmosphere around but theres quite a few areas that you can see bad thing going on and people too drunk aswell after certain time its better not to pas around there
Brixton its full different shop and butchers where you can find any type of food and spices also a bunch of bars where pints are quite cheap and again jamaican restaurants are the best
Good thing is that there is a mix between everything- shops (local and franchise) and parks for leisure and having a good time.

The bad aspect of it, is that it’s a busy high street but apart from that it’s amazing because we have everything around us
