The area is generally safe for children and pets with road calming throughout and a park which is patrolled and locked at night. The rise in house prices suggest that it is improving but this seems to mean more people move in and out of the area at relatively short notice. As a result we only know our immediate neighbors and feel the community has suffered as a result of so much movement.

Transport

Transport has been much improved by the introduction of 2 new buses linking Askew Road with Hammersmith. In addition both Shepherds Bush and Chiswick are well served by bused with the 94 offering easy access to the West End. The district line complements there services with stations at Ravenscout Park and Stamfood Brook proving as ready access as you will find in any London suburb. Anyone wishing to travel by bike will find a good selection of cycle lanes in the area, although personally I find the lane flowing against the traffic in King Street Hammersmith unsafe and will avoid the Broadway at all cost! With a little research detours through Brook Green or past the new Riverside Studios will solve the problem.r

Community

I live opposite Wendell Park which offers a view of open space and an excellent out door amenity in which children can play and we can all exercise. There is an improving range of shops in Askew Road and readily accessible churches of most denominations. Probably the most unpleasant aspect is noise. There always seems to be nearby house undergoing major refurbishment or extension. whilst we are lucky to have good-sized gardens, some people could be most considerate of the noise they are making when having parties or babecues. Finally, as a gardener, I have difficulty with the neighbors' cats who seem to prefer the area around my freshly planted seedlings to their own more arid backyards.

Amenities

For me living north of Stamford Brook station the distinguishing feature of the area is water. Stamford Brook is now mostly buried in pipes under the area, a point worth bearing in mind when having a house surveyed for purchase or major alterations. The Brook joins the Thames at the western end of Furnival Gardens in Hammersmith. Well worth a visit in the evening to see the sun set on the Chiswick reaches and enjoy a drink in one of the well-appoint pubs in the area. My favourite is the Dove. I would return home via Ravenscourt Park where, in winter months, the disadvantages of the high water table can be seen in the water logging of much of the grass area! However, the pond is always a treat with a remarkable variety of wildfowl for such a small area.

It’s a beautiful area with gorgeous houses so lovely to walk around.

It’s residential enough that you don’t feel like you’re in zone 2 but close enough to transport to get you into central London within 15 minutes. It’s the perfect combination especially if you’re commuting into the city for your job every weekday. Westfield is the star attraction but just a bus ride away is beautiful Chiswick High Road with trendy shops, bars and restaurants. Can’t go wrong!

Transport

Being zone 2 in London you have buses going in every direction aswell as tube stations. Close by you have Stamford Brook (distinct line), Goldhawk Road (Hammersmith and City and Circle line) aswell as Shepherds Bush and White City (Central Line). It is particularly busy around rush hour (especially at Shepherd’s Bush) between 8-9 in the morning.

Community

It’s a beautiful area with gorgeous houses so lovely to walk around. I get the impression that there is a mix of owners and renters in the area. You have the odd crime happen (where doesn’t that happen in London?!) but I don’t feel unsafe walking around the area. I never have a problem with bin collection. You have bins for your black rubbish and then Hammersmith and Fulham council provide you with recycling bags for your recycling. It’s an unspoken rule that you don’t put your recycling out until the night before collection. It keeps the area looking tidy.

Amenities

There are some great local coffee shops - Lavelli Bakery being one on Askew Road. Great coffee and baked goods. A bus ride away you have Westfield which has an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars. Westfield is extremely popular as it has everything under one roof including a gym, cinema, Waitrose as well as high end and high street stores. Not far away you also have Chiswick High Road which again has great restaurants and bars but particularly independent special shops that Westfield doesn’t!

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal!

When you've lived here long enough you can spot trouble/a new face a mile off. The building up of the area is enevitable, residents rarely oppose re-development and it's location makes it desirable. If you don't have a garden it's difficult to raise active children outdoors without conflict. Everyone has a cat/dog and the natural disharmony this brings between them causes endless cat wars and dog attacks however decent the owner is. Car crime, theft & burglaries still happen because of the disparity between social classes living ontop of and nextdoor to eachother... Everyone has CCTV now for a reason. If your sensitive to noise beware councils do nothing when you have a nightmare neighbour. 5G masts have been springing up and causing adverse health effects for once long term residents, resulting in higher turn over of tenants and house sales as people move out to escape literally being electrocuted in their homes at the top of the road.

Transport

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal! Street cleaning is often an issue as LBH fail to deliver, also tree pollen is a nightmare!

Community

Mix of social and private tenants, plenty of crazy cat ladies! Mix of families, and miserable interfering oaps mostly. There is a high footfall of office workers passing through, and criminals using the boundaries as easy in/outs. Lots of car crime due to the above. At night you can hear the district line train running, and the regular siren blazing through the nearby junction that requires drivers to honk over anytime another hasn't paid attention to the lights/signs.

Amenities

The high street has been dying for years, Chains -especially restaurants seem to be the only long lived, and provide underwhelming food for an eclectic community. Chris's fish & chips is a staple, as is Lara's & Franco Manca... Elsewhere I wouldn't bother. There are no trendy bars anymore -the neighbours moan too much about any such nightlife/noise and pubs are dying too, George IV is popular, and avoid the old packhorse unless you want to find a drug dealer. Be prepared to fight buggies & bikes for walking pavement space, the death march sets pace here. Chiswick house was once a peaceful haven now becomes swamped on sunnier days, and walking the dog is a perilous task everyone is at, and at risk of attack by other highly strung dogs. Overall lacking outdoor toilet amenities, once the restaurants/pubs close you'll have to pee in a bush/someones front garden -and everyone's fed up of this!
