Overview of W4 2AW, Devonshire Road, Chiswick
W4 2AW is in London, in Hounslow borough. W4 2AW is one of the best rated places to live in this area, with a score of 4.49 out of 5 from 95 reviews. Most people give the area 4.49 stars. 52 of 95 reviewers rated W4 2AW 5 stars, with comments such as ‘The lovely thing about Chiswick is that there's a charm about it’. However, others were more equivocal in their assessment, for example, one reviewer said ‘Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal!’.It's generally a really nice place to live and is well maintained by the people who live here
I think there is a little too much entitlement among the demographic in my area - more frequently than I have experienced staying in other parts of London/England, people expect things to be at the high standards to which they are accustomed and behave rudely when these are not met. An example of this would be demanding a refund on food which did not meet expectations or becoming angry at shop staff when something is out of stock. On the flipside, the area is full of families and most restaurants, cafes and shops are welcoming and staffed by friendly people. Even the staff at chain cafes and restaurants will remember regular customers and make them feel remembered and special. It's generally a really nice place to live and is well maintained by the people who live here
Transport
Transport links are generally excellent; we have Turnham Green, Stamford Brook and Chiswick Park stations all on the district line and the 94 bus takes one straight into central London via Westfield. However, the Grove Park area of Chiswick only really has Chiswick Mainline station with the E3 bus to connect it to the London Underground. This could be improved upon.

My street is connected directly to the A316, so it can be busy. However, the houses are set back far enough such that the road cannot be heard from the back garden or the bedrooms. Additionally, the streets in my area are all close to bus routes or tube stations, and local supermarkets are conveniently placed. Some of the houses have been split up into flats or individual rooms, but there are also families who own whole houses. Parking availabilty can be an issue on the street, but a lot of the houses have spaces in front yards to park cars. I think this would be better solved by every family only having one car as opposed to making changes to the street or local area itself.
Amenities
There is a wide variety of cuisines and price-ranges among the restaurants and cafes in Chiswick. There seems to be an over-abundance of clothing outlets and, until recently, we had 3 Starbucks, 2 Caffe Neros and a Costa on the high street. Otherwise, I would say that the high street and Turnham Green Terrace offer a good shopping experience; with a balance of chains and independent retailers. I would say that we lack independent food outlets that offer cheap meals. Further towards Hammersmith, there are curry houses and bakeries that serve good quality food for a small price, but I think there is an expectation of 'class' among the average patron in Chiswick that denies our high street such restaurants.
The lovely thing about Chiswick is that there's a charm about it
I wish it were a bit more diverse in terms of who lives there. You can tell that they only people who have lived there and see settled are of a particular background and race which is very unfortunate. There is also no diversity in terms of people who are employed at these shops. Big downside for me and I will personally not visit an establishment once it becomes apparent that they do not hire certain people based on their backgrounds, religion, etc. Unfortunate, that I can't always know this beforehand.
Transport
Bus stops are all along the high Street as well as underground stations. It's very easy to get from over area to another.
Community
None. Very thankful in that aspect. There are many families and older people living in the area, and it's very quiet. It's very safe at all times of the day and night.
Amenities
There are many shops in the area offering high quality products, especially along Turnham Green terrace where you can find a wonderful zero waste shop which us hard to come by, even in London! There is is also a grade A butchers and fishmonger as well as health and wellness store among many other specialty shops. The lovely thing about Chiswick is that there's a charm about it, one you can experience by tasting a gelato from Foubert's, one of many of the older businesses in the area. Chiswick is a wonderful place is you'd like to do some shopping: the Old Cinema sells amazing vintage pieces of furniture and luggage as well as jewellery. If nothing else, it's lovely to come in and browse. You could easily spend an hour or two here! The high Street has all the shops you might be looking for as well as many boutiques selling higher end clothing. We've got Book Case London which is one of the best book shops I've ever come across and the staff are just lovely. You could take a walk to Chiswick House and enjoy the view and the greenery there. It's beautiful and very popular in the spring and summer. What's missing from this area is one thing, a bit of youthfulness. Because of the lack of a movie theatre and music venues, etc.... It's lacking a vibrancy that only a bit of youthful presence can add.
Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal!
When you've lived here long enough you can spot trouble/a new face a mile off. The building up of the area is enevitable, residents rarely oppose re-development and it's location makes it desirable. If you don't have a garden it's difficult to raise active children outdoors without conflict. Everyone has a cat/dog and the natural disharmony this brings between them causes endless cat wars and dog attacks however decent the owner is. Car crime, theft & burglaries still happen because of the disparity between social classes living ontop of and nextdoor to eachother... Everyone has CCTV now for a reason. If your sensitive to noise beware councils do nothing when you have a nightmare neighbour. 5G masts have been springing up and causing adverse health effects for once long term residents, resulting in higher turn over of tenants and house sales as people move out to escape literally being electrocuted in their homes at the top of the road.
Transport
Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal! Street cleaning is often an issue as LBH fail to deliver, also tree pollen is a nightmare!
Community
Mix of social and private tenants, plenty of crazy cat ladies! Mix of families, and miserable interfering oaps mostly. There is a high footfall of office workers passing through, and criminals using the boundaries as easy in/outs. Lots of car crime due to the above. At night you can hear the district line train running, and the regular siren blazing through the nearby junction that requires drivers to honk over anytime another hasn't paid attention to the lights/signs.
Amenities
The high street has been dying for years, Chains -especially restaurants seem to be the only long lived, and provide underwhelming food for an eclectic community. Chris's fish & chips is a staple, as is Lara's & Franco Manca... Elsewhere I wouldn't bother. There are no trendy bars anymore -the neighbours moan too much about any such nightlife/noise and pubs are dying too, George IV is popular, and avoid the old packhorse unless you want to find a drug dealer. Be prepared to fight buggies & bikes for walking pavement space, the death march sets pace here. Chiswick house was once a peaceful haven now becomes swamped on sunnier days, and walking the dog is a perilous task everyone is at, and at risk of attack by other highly strung dogs. Overall lacking outdoor toilet amenities, once the restaurants/pubs close you'll have to pee in a bush/someones front garden -and everyone's fed up of this!
I really recommend the area to live as everything is outside your doorstep.
