The area is great and it works for me and my family.

The area is great and it works for me and my family. It is sad that many shops do not last - like I said this could be due to rent being far too high. The turnover of shops is very high. It has it's crime levels but then most of London does. There have been times when young teenagers were getting mugged on a weekly basis which was utterly horrific. Chiswick is a trendy area for families to live.

Transport

I am not next to a tube station but we have Gunnersbury, Chiswick Park and Turnham Green close by. Turnham Green only runs trains very early and late in the day which is a shame as it only caters for commuters. Buses are a plenty running North, South, East and West. There are no bicycle lanes in Chiswick but plenty of bike racks and even a Brompton fold up bike rental spot which is handy. Sadly a big pending issue is the possibility of the flight path from Heathrow coming over Chiswick in the future. It already affects us from a noise pollution angle but this is likely to increase which is very sad.

Community

The street is home to many families who I believe own their homes as we do. It is not the friendliest of streets and I think that is due to the busy traffic running along it. There is ample parking for residents and a long period of restriction which means I almost always get a space to park. The parking wardens in Chiswick are out come rain or shine so visitors cannot get away with parking in a resident bay for too long! Our street and Chiswick is generally a very clean area. Bins are collected weekly and very efficiently as the street does not look dirty afterwards.

Amenities

I live very close to Chiswick high road which is full of a variety of shops. You can pick up anything you want there: books, gifts, food, flowers, lighting etc. There are a number of large stores like WHSmith, M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Waterstones to name a few. Then there are smaller chain stores such as Gregs, Poungland, Robert Dyas for example. There are plenty of one of restaurants and cafes scattered around as well as larger chains. The high road is every changing perhaps due to overpriced rental. We are lucky to have several GP clinics, physiotherapy centres and Pilates studios too.

I have lived in Chiswick for 20 years and it feels a very safe area.

I would describe Chiswick generally as a very family-friendly place, with an affluent middle-class population. It doesn't feel like there's much crime, and what crime there is comes from elsewhere in London rather than being from home-grown gangs. I have lived in Chiswick for 20 years and it feels a very safe area. There is an strong sense of community. Because of the excellent primary schools in the area, many young families move to the area and they simply don't leave; often staying for decades. And I think that's because the area is actually a great place to live with a great sense of community, plenty of open space, an abundance of cafes and restaurants, easy access to the M4/Heathrow when you want to get out of London, and excellent accessibility to the West End or central London for work. It really is the best of all worlds.

Transport

Chiswick covers a large area. Parts of Chiswick are very well served by the tube but others, particularly to the south near the river, are a long walk from a tube station and you'd need to rely on buses. There is an overland station in Chiswick. Tube services are excellent, but everyone in Chiswick complains that the Piccadilly Line doesn't actually stop in Chiswick; it just whistles through without stopping, apart from very early in the morning and very late at night. So, for tubes, you're reliant on the District Line which is a bit old and clunky. There is the excellent 94 Bus service which travels directly west, leading to Notting Hill, Mayfair, Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.

Community

On my street we have off-street parking which is a blessing. Although the area is generally quite busy during the day with pedestrians and traffic, I would say it isn't noisy. And in the evenings and at night, it's peaceful. The proximity to Chiswick Back Common means there is open parkland literally on your doorstep. There are several other parks in very close proximity and the area is surprisingly green for a Zone 2 location. Demographics of the area are quite varied. There are a lot of young families and on a weekend with good weather you'll find Chiswick High Road awash with buggies and kids on scooters. There are also a lot of retirement homes in the immediate vicinity so a surprising number of old people too.

Amenities

Chiswick hosts a vast and diverse array of restaurants and cafes. As a family, we eat out regularly and don't usually leave Chiswick as there are most types of cuisine available. Generally speaking, the quality of the food is excellent. It's also nice that there are a load of non-chain restaurants which means you don't have to go to the usual suspects. Every pub is a gastro pub and very family orientated. There seems to be an awful lot of Italian restaurants. There are strangely very few Indian restaurants and you have to head towards Hammersmith to get a decent Indian. But otherwise, the selection is huge.

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal!

When you've lived here long enough you can spot trouble/a new face a mile off. The building up of the area is enevitable, residents rarely oppose re-development and it's location makes it desirable. If you don't have a garden it's difficult to raise active children outdoors without conflict. Everyone has a cat/dog and the natural disharmony this brings between them causes endless cat wars and dog attacks however decent the owner is. Car crime, theft & burglaries still happen because of the disparity between social classes living ontop of and nextdoor to eachother... Everyone has CCTV now for a reason. If your sensitive to noise beware councils do nothing when you have a nightmare neighbour. 5G masts have been springing up and causing adverse health effects for once long term residents, resulting in higher turn over of tenants and house sales as people move out to escape literally being electrocuted in their homes at the top of the road.

Transport

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal! Street cleaning is often an issue as LBH fail to deliver, also tree pollen is a nightmare!

Community

Mix of social and private tenants, plenty of crazy cat ladies! Mix of families, and miserable interfering oaps mostly. There is a high footfall of office workers passing through, and criminals using the boundaries as easy in/outs. Lots of car crime due to the above. At night you can hear the district line train running, and the regular siren blazing through the nearby junction that requires drivers to honk over anytime another hasn't paid attention to the lights/signs.

Amenities

The high street has been dying for years, Chains -especially restaurants seem to be the only long lived, and provide underwhelming food for an eclectic community. Chris's fish & chips is a staple, as is Lara's & Franco Manca... Elsewhere I wouldn't bother. There are no trendy bars anymore -the neighbours moan too much about any such nightlife/noise and pubs are dying too, George IV is popular, and avoid the old packhorse unless you want to find a drug dealer. Be prepared to fight buggies & bikes for walking pavement space, the death march sets pace here. Chiswick house was once a peaceful haven now becomes swamped on sunnier days, and walking the dog is a perilous task everyone is at, and at risk of attack by other highly strung dogs. Overall lacking outdoor toilet amenities, once the restaurants/pubs close you'll have to pee in a bush/someones front garden -and everyone's fed up of this!
