Parents and children can sometimes be entitled and overbearing though not too much. As mentioned, the Lane can be a bit twee with the local mums congregating in matching Cath Kidston etc but they're harmless. The area is quite upmarket, very leafy and green and peaceful and there is a good sense of community especially round Autumn and Christmas. Definitely suitable for both children and pets, with plenty of green open spaces to run around. I certainly feel safe of an evening. I don;t think there is much need of regeneration though I would imagine some developer will always find a way.
Transport
Brilliant transport options. Tube, overland, national rail and buses. Excellent bike routes through leafy parks and cycle highways. Ealing Broadway particularly well connected for transport with District, Central and GWR trains into town and heathrow. Bus routes take you anywhere, whether into town or out to Uxbridge, Brentford, Hounslow, Ruislip, Wembley, Harrow. District line is a little erratic lately, and you can find yourself sitting in a train in the platform for 20 minutes if hou mistime it in the morning. GWR fast and regular into Paddington. Buses are regular and reliable, sometimes busy but never really packed to the gills. Traffic tends to be concentrated on the main roads, A40, Great West Road etc plus the usual build up round schools and stations during rush hour.
Community
Fantastic street to live on, i'm very lucky. There tend to be mostly owners in the large single occupancy family homes round here, with some renters in the 1940s/50s blocks of art deco ish flats scattered around. There are more of the family homes being converted into luxury flats of late but this doesn't seem to detract from the area as yet. Very little traffic noise, school drop off can be a pain unless you're walking or cycling but it always will be. Street cleaning is done regularly and the bin collections are quick and quiet. There was a spate of anti social behaviour some months ago, with a spate of bicycles being stolen, catalytic converters being removed under broad daylight and local school kids being a bit noisy but really they were in high spritis rather than anything truly untoward. I feel safe here and i feel safe walking home at night in winter.
Amenities
Lovely area, great little lane for shopping though can be quite 'twee' and expensive. apart from that, there's a real sense of community and a village-y atmosphere. Just further down the other side of the hill is Ealing Broadway, which has the standard high street shops but also Dickens Yard with lovely independent cafes and restaurants. Lovely leafy areas and parks with tennis courts etc. All in all, a nice area.
Pitshanger Lane has a village feel with a local community to match
This area, Pitshanger, is a gem. Nestled in West London between some less desirable areas, it is a pocket of heaven, with an extremely strong community feel, an award-winning high street that offers all and high quality amenities, amazing transport links, great schools, parks and green spaces, so many activities for babies and children and families and is ideal for families or older people or professions working in London. It's safe for kids and pets and is a delightful area.
Transport
Transport links are excellent. Ealing Broadway tube station is one mile away, so a 15 minute walk or a short bus ride. Buses are frequent, regular and of course, busy at peak times. We are also close to about 4 other train and tube lines. Ealing Broadway is a tube and mainline train line with trains into Paddington within 10 minutes, and heading out West. We are just a 20 minute drive from Heathrow airport, and 1 hour from Luton and Stansted and 90 minutes from Gatwick. We are a 15 minute drive from the M4, M25 and M1 , so easy to head west or north!
Community
Our street offers free parking but it's very hard to get a place due to London commuters parking there in the week. There are largely families and professionals living here, largely home-owners but also plenty of renters, as well as a residential block of sheltered housing. It's a lovely street with no issues.
Amenities
Pitshanger Lane has a village feel with a local community to match. It boasts a butchers, bakers, fishmongers, two Co-ops, a post-office, library, a book shop, gift shops, delicatessen, grocers, hairdressers, beauticians, a laundrette, dry cleaners, estate agents, numerous cafes and restaurants, including a fish n chip shop, Chinese, kebab and pizza take-away! It's wonderful, great quality and the traders and community are very close and collaborative on local events and in supporting local schools
it's mostly a residential area so it's safe.
Nothing really
Transport
We dont have enough public transport. We only have two bus lines and if anything happens in the road we have to walk quite a distance in order to catch it in the next closest place.
Community
Theres plenty of parking space it's mostly a residential area so it's safe. People behave well and the it's not very noisy
Amenities
There aren't many options and the ones that do exist are a bit expensive. The food is average. The parks are quite nice though. I would say we are missing some type of fast food chain and a better supermarket.
I love how safe, quiet and beautiful it is.
