Overview of W5 2HE, Eaton Rise, London
W5 2HE is in London, in Ealing borough. From a total of 42 reviews, it is scored 4.21 out of 5, meaning it’s one of the higher rated places to live in this area. 15 reviewers, out of 42 total, rated W5 2HE 5 stars. Comments written by these locals include ‘The area is quite upmarket, very leafy and green and peaceful and there is a good sense of community especially round Autumn and Christmas.’. However, not all reviewers were as positive, with one saying ‘become a wasteland of discount stores and questionable hygiene standards grocers.’.become a wasteland of discount stores and questionable hygiene standards grocers.
Depressing selection of shops. Ealing used to offer enough variety to not have to warrant a trip into London centre unless you had very particular tastes. Now, it's become a wasteland of discount stores and questionable hygiene standards grocers. There's still parts of the borough where a sense of community exists, but it's dwindling.
Transport
Good transport links to Paddington and Heathrow. Within a small area, Ealing is covered by 4 tube lines and Network Rail. Quite well-served by buses with a NightBus service that connects it to central London. Parking spaces are becoming increasingly difficult to find and buses are often at maximum capacity.
Community
Ealing used to be an area where you'd buy your property, raise your family and spend time happily. Renting has become the prominent way of living in the area as more and more charming houses become converted into bed-sits or individual apartments. With the change, a decline in social values has been bestowed upon the area. A growing number of migrant workers living in converted garages, quite evident by the empty bottles on the streets at the end of a weekend. The area feels depressed and it's a shame considering all the hope and vibrancy the area showed up until the late 1990's. The shopping centre no longer feels like the special place it used to be, poverty is creeping in to an area that was once affluent. Crime has gone up, car thefts, violence on the streets has increased although not to the levels of other London suburbs.
Amenities
Quality of shops has been waning over the last decade. The area used to cater towards the young to middle-aged middle-class sector but it's changed to become mainly average eateries and coffee shops. Ealing has quite a few pubs, some quite welcoming, but after 11pm you're stuck for entertainment. The clubs have seemingly closed down and in general the area is on the decline. For the rents the area commands, the high street offerings do not align to the target audience. Long debated, Ealing's cinema has been torn down and it seems the facade has been kept as an interest point for another new development of overpriced apartments. Ealing is well served by public transport and allows you easy access to London & Heathrow as long as a connection to travelling along the M4 corridor. There are plenty of parks in the area and is a nice place to bring up the family if you are able to afford to purchase a house nearby. Ealing's wholesomeness has been erased. You used to be able to drive in, have a coffee, purchase what you needed and feel good about the world. Now it's just a hub of apartment buildings in progress and very little in the way of retailers to service them.
The area is quite upmarket, very leafy and green and peaceful and there is a good sense of community especially round Autumn and Christmas.
Parents and children can sometimes be entitled and overbearing though not too much. As mentioned, the Lane can be a bit twee with the local mums congregating in matching Cath Kidston etc but they're harmless. The area is quite upmarket, very leafy and green and peaceful and there is a good sense of community especially round Autumn and Christmas. Definitely suitable for both children and pets, with plenty of green open spaces to run around. I certainly feel safe of an evening. I don;t think there is much need of regeneration though I would imagine some developer will always find a way.
Transport
Brilliant transport options. Tube, overland, national rail and buses. Excellent bike routes through leafy parks and cycle highways. Ealing Broadway particularly well connected for transport with District, Central and GWR trains into town and heathrow. Bus routes take you anywhere, whether into town or out to Uxbridge, Brentford, Hounslow, Ruislip, Wembley, Harrow. District line is a little erratic lately, and you can find yourself sitting in a train in the platform for 20 minutes if hou mistime it in the morning. GWR fast and regular into Paddington. Buses are regular and reliable, sometimes busy but never really packed to the gills. Traffic tends to be concentrated on the main roads, A40, Great West Road etc plus the usual build up round schools and stations during rush hour.

Fantastic street to live on, i'm very lucky. There tend to be mostly owners in the large single occupancy family homes round here, with some renters in the 1940s/50s blocks of art deco ish flats scattered around. There are more of the family homes being converted into luxury flats of late but this doesn't seem to detract from the area as yet. Very little traffic noise, school drop off can be a pain unless you're walking or cycling but it always will be. Street cleaning is done regularly and the bin collections are quick and quiet. There was a spate of anti social behaviour some months ago, with a spate of bicycles being stolen, catalytic converters being removed under broad daylight and local school kids being a bit noisy but really they were in high spritis rather than anything truly untoward. I feel safe here and i feel safe walking home at night in winter.
Amenities
Lovely area, great little lane for shopping though can be quite 'twee' and expensive. apart from that, there's a real sense of community and a village-y atmosphere. Just further down the other side of the hill is Ealing Broadway, which has the standard high street shops but also Dickens Yard with lovely independent cafes and restaurants. Lovely leafy areas and parks with tennis courts etc. All in all, a nice area.
Lovely street to live in
Lots of local schools both primary and secondary. Great shopping and restaurants in Ealing broadway
Transport
public transport is not great. It's quite a long walk to Ealing broadway station- downhill in the morning but up hill on the way home!
Community
This is a wide street so it's hard to meet people on the other side. There is usually plenty of car parking ( residents permit parking)
Amenities
Lovely street to live in . London borough of Ealing so there is refuse/ re cycling collection every other week. Street parking is for residents only . There are many toddler groups/ coffee mornings at St. Stephens church nearby.
it's mostly a residential area so it's safe.
