The local area is fun, multicultural, vibrant, accessible & never sleeps

The local area is fun, multicultural, vibrant, accessible & never sleeps. It's as safe as you are smart. The area is suitable for all family members and pets, with local parks and plenty green space. Parking can be expensive but is free after 5pm on most rds or 8pm closer to shopping malls. You will never be bored or go hungry in West London.

Transport

Transport is excellent in my area, the only time transport becomes an issue is rush hour as congestion builds heavily on the shepherd's Bush roundabout and wait times can be exhausting. Trains are available on the doorstep or within a very short walking distance. There are bus stops within 100feet of each other and night buses seem plentiful although I do not use them as often anymore.

Community

This area is a vast mix, in particular the majority are likely to be renters as house prices in this area are extremely high and most will not have the deposit nor earn enough to cover the mortgage. If anyone does own they bought the property a long time ago or they share the property to reduce costs. There are not as many students in this area but there's a music school which houses a couple hundred. Anti social behaviour doesn't seem to be an issue, but its all perspective.

Amenities

West London is vibrant and multicultural, the shops and amenities reflect that with its vast array of cuisine in particular. The shepherd's Bush Market has everything you need in one place from clothing to accessories, homewarw to furniture, music and trinkets to food both Caribbean and west African. The streets are aligned with shops and local talent displaying their unique goods and then onto the main shopping complexes which house high street brands and designer. Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith & Ladbroke Grove are the most popular especially during the summer months and carnival. The only thing missing is entertainment in the form of an ice skating rink and bowling.

The area is perfect for families with young children and pets thanks to the abundance of local open green spaces. The area feels safe although being London you certainly don't leave your doors unlocked and it's not uncommon to have your car rifled thought at night if you leave it unlocked. The Edwardian houses have a certain charm without being overly fashionable. The atmosphere is best described as quiet, peaceful and even a tiny bit boring in the nicest possible way. It is not edgy or trendy or rustic or bohemian, just very middle class, as it always has been since it was designed and built.

Transport

Transport links are amazing. With the 94 bus and night bus at the end of our road you can be in Central London quickly and easily. We are in easy access of the District Line (Stamford Brook), Hammersmith & City line (Goldhawk Road) and Central line (Shepherds Bush). Overground is also easily accessible from Shepherds Bush and Acton Central.

Community

Ours is such a quiet street away from the noise of traffic on the Goldhawk Road. The noisiest thing is the birds, and they really can be noisy. Fortunately we don't get the worst of the aircraft noise like they do in Chiswick. The street is definitely a family street of owner occupiers although in some houses children have grown up and left. Not necessarily the most social of streets but everyone gets along pretty well as far as we can see.

Amenities

Local shops and restaurants are in Askew Road. Over the years we've been living here the Askew Road has greatly improved with a selection of pretty nice independent (not formula) restaurants and cafes, a range of convenience stores and a few specialist places like the Ginger Pig butchers, Askew Wine (that sells cheese imported from Paris), an artisan baker as well as two pharmacies and a post office. To be really picky it would be great to also have a fishmonger and fruit and veg shop. There used to be but both sadly closed. The Askew Road also has a gastro pub with amazing garden called The Eagle, and just at the end of our road we have The Duchess pub with good beer and food ,and a pretty courtyard for summer. We are blessed with three great open spaces within 100 metres or so of our house: Ravenscourt Park, Wendell Park and Stamford Brook green. Each is charming in its own right, and a little further we have Acton Park with its crazy golf, Chiswick House and beautiful stretches of river. All are great for exercise, kids and dog walking. All in all it's an area we have been very happy in, equidistant from more-edgy Shepherds Bush, corporate Hammersmith and leafy Chiswick.

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal!

When you've lived here long enough you can spot trouble/a new face a mile off. The building up of the area is enevitable, residents rarely oppose re-development and it's location makes it desirable. If you don't have a garden it's difficult to raise active children outdoors without conflict. Everyone has a cat/dog and the natural disharmony this brings between them causes endless cat wars and dog attacks however decent the owner is. Car crime, theft & burglaries still happen because of the disparity between social classes living ontop of and nextdoor to eachother... Everyone has CCTV now for a reason. If your sensitive to noise beware councils do nothing when you have a nightmare neighbour. 5G masts have been springing up and causing adverse health effects for once long term residents, resulting in higher turn over of tenants and house sales as people move out to escape literally being electrocuted in their homes at the top of the road.

Transport

Great transport connections both for bus & train, direct roads in/out of town, however traffic is abysmal! Street cleaning is often an issue as LBH fail to deliver, also tree pollen is a nightmare!

Community

Mix of social and private tenants, plenty of crazy cat ladies! Mix of families, and miserable interfering oaps mostly. There is a high footfall of office workers passing through, and criminals using the boundaries as easy in/outs. Lots of car crime due to the above. At night you can hear the district line train running, and the regular siren blazing through the nearby junction that requires drivers to honk over anytime another hasn't paid attention to the lights/signs.

Amenities

The high street has been dying for years, Chains -especially restaurants seem to be the only long lived, and provide underwhelming food for an eclectic community. Chris's fish & chips is a staple, as is Lara's & Franco Manca... Elsewhere I wouldn't bother. There are no trendy bars anymore -the neighbours moan too much about any such nightlife/noise and pubs are dying too, George IV is popular, and avoid the old packhorse unless you want to find a drug dealer. Be prepared to fight buggies & bikes for walking pavement space, the death march sets pace here. Chiswick house was once a peaceful haven now becomes swamped on sunnier days, and walking the dog is a perilous task everyone is at, and at risk of attack by other highly strung dogs. Overall lacking outdoor toilet amenities, once the restaurants/pubs close you'll have to pee in a bush/someones front garden -and everyone's fed up of this!
