It’s quite a mature and affluent vibe here; restaurants can price out younger couples. Although I think the area has seen an influx of affluent young families in recent years. If you want nightclubs or your doorstep this is not the place; pubs close at midnight on the whole. Most people seem to have either children and or a dog. In the summer people enjoy Dog walks along and or drinks down by the river. Which is lovely but can get very busy. There’s a local sports centre where people play cricket and tennis etc. It’s very quaint down by the duck pond in the centre of Barnes and has food markets etc. Also there’s a nice festive vibe in the winter where you can choose from a number of pubs to enjoy a mulled wine. On the whole a lovely family area but pretty expensive to live here!!
Transport
Barnes is very well connected to central London if you’re willing to walk over the bridge to Hammersmith Tube stop. The bridge is closed which some have found has made their commute into town much harder. But those willing to walk over the bridge won’t be affected. Buses run regularly through Barnes in all directions. If you commute out towards Surrey as I do, the A3 provides a rapid route south of London into Surrey. Castelnau did have a heavy traffic issue at certain times of day before the bridge closed. If you commute into town you may want to check out when the bridge is set to reopen!

Arundel Terrace is a very quiet Street to live on considering its proximity to Hammersmith. The street is a dead end so doesn’t get traffic passing through and finding a parking space is rarely an issue. Residents seem to be made up of a mixture of families, couples and retirees. People are friendly and often greet each other on the street. There’s a line of communal bins at the end of the street for mansion block flats which are collected weekly. We recently had an issue with the bin men refusing to pick up the large stack of cardboard for recycling so this piled up. Luckily some friendly neighbours worked together to clear it up; not an unusual display of community spirit on Arundel Terrace. Anti-social behaviour has not been an issue for me but graffiti is increasingly noticeable and I know of a mugging nearby, a bike theft on the street and a number plate stolen from a car. Arguably issues faved by any London street.
Amenities
Arundel Terrace is situated a stones throw from a row of handy shops including a pub, pharmacy, corner shop, post office, a couple of cafes; there’s a superb Indian restaurant, an Italian and a Chinese takeaway. We are also just a 10 minute walk over the bridge to all the shops etc in Hammersmith and a 20 minute walk back into Barnes village which has a number of pubs, restaurants and a few boutique style shops. If you are looking for busy bars - Barnes is not the place. Amenities are designed to suit family lifestyles.
Safe, friendly and good value. Not trendy but improving.
Safe, friendly and good value. Not trendy but improving. Good for families and normal life
Transport
BC tube station is small, but busy offering both Piccadilly and District line: West Kensington offers another options to start. Buses are not great but do go up and down North End Road and Hammersmith offers lots of bus routes to north London and to south of river. Easy walk to the river, and access to Thames Path and riverside pubs. Easy to get out of London by car as on the A4/M4. Only 20 minutes to Heathrow without traffic!

Parking on street is generally available. Palliser road can have traffic but generally not too much out of rush hour. Our street has Families in houses one side which are owned and flats which are rented and owned. Many people have small dogs and walk them in street or cemetery. Generally quiet at night- occasional noise in summer when pubs end - but v little.
Amenities
Barons Court is a great place to live- very under appreciated; fantastic transport links with both Piccadilly and District line, on the A4 to get out of London, 10 minutes walk to the river and lots of Santander bike sites to hire from. The shops offer everything: Cest Ici, a great patisserie, Walters, the best small butcher in London, a friendly pharmacy, a Londis, wine merchant Newsagent with Amazon drop off and even a dry cleaners! Queens is in the doorstep and a few good pubs. It’s safe, friendly and Chating Cross is a good hospital! Why go elsewhere 👍
There is your normal range of high street shops plus alot of different restaurants and pub
The area is suitable for children and everyone. It's safe to a standard but hey that's London for you. You get that everywhere. It's pet friendly and children friendly. Local shops lovely
Transport
There is a variety of transport and is always busy! Peak times there will be alot of traffic and maybe due to weather too might be slight delays but overall efficiencant. Due to covid 19 buses and transports in area are longer wait now which means even more slower. The clearness of public transport is appalling apart from that not bad

The good thing about it everything is local plus alot of places to go and alot of things you and your famliy and friends can do. You get some friendly locals. The bad thing about living on my street you get quite alot of people who mis use and make our streets dirty unfortunately. Plenty anti social behaviour but we do have alot of police here all the time so yes I know doesn't sound good.
Amenities
There is your normal range of high street shops plus alot of different restaurants and pub. It's a very busy modern area! There's is plenty things to do such has shopping and dinning or going out to club. Also for families with children there's the lyric theatre plus many local parks for children to have fun and explore nature. You fancy a change come down to Hammersmith. Friendly locals and plenty to do.
