When I think of my local area, W9, I feel it is a modern, yet charming area of London. Though there are many blocks of modern residential accommodation, this is balanced by many gardens, parks and entertainment such as bars and restaurants. The atmosphere in the local area is very upmarket, but in an approachable and comfortable way, making the area very liveable. Considering its proximity to central London, it feels remarkably safe for children, and the closeness of many open spaces makes it ideal for walking your pet, or taking your children for a walk.
Transport
W9 has amazing proximity to numerous tube lines, bus lines and access to the overground. Nearby, Maida Vale and Warwick Avenue serve the Bakerloo Line, St Johns Wood serves the Jubilee and Kilburn High Road serves the Overground between Watford Junction and Euston. There are many buses that pass through W9, most conveniently the 46, 98 and 414, among others. The access to transport links really is great and makes going into Central London even more convenient and simple. The buses in this area could have a more reliable service, but the tube and overground lines come very regularly and reliably. In such a central area there is also great access to the Santander bikes.

The street I live on is a relatively peaceful one; during daytime it can become a bit noisy with cars on their way to Central London, but for the most part it is quite quiet and relaxed. Luckily there is very little (if ever any) anti-social behaviours, as most people on living on the street are families and couples looking for peace from the hustle-and-bustle of Central London. Luckily there is a fair amount of parking availability, as most residents don’t have cars and instead travel by bus, overground of tube. Additionally, the bins are collected very regularly, making the area generally always appear very clean and attractive.

The W9 area has a great array of amenities, particularly fresh food grocers and restaurants with a range of different cuisines. The area is conveniently situated between Central London, with Paddington and Kensington within walking distance, and North West London, right by Regents Park and Oxford St, meaning there are even more choices of bars and restaurants. A big pull towards the W9 area is the close proximity to many open spaces, with local gardens such as Little Venice Gardens and Paddington Recreational Gardens nearby, and bigger parks such as Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill nearby too. If I had to critique any amenities being lacking, it would be that there aren’t a huge amount of regular supermarkets.

Personally, I wouldn’t change it for any other area in London. Paddington is a ten minute walk and has all the bank branches which I find very useful. It’s a 5 minute walk to Hyde Park from there. Edgware Road has every restaurant and dessert place you can think of, it is at it’s best in the summer evenings. You forgot you’re in central London. Church Street Market is also worth going to every now and then as it tends to be very busy but it’s a great experience. Incredible fresh fish, fruit and vegetable and fabric stalls amongst everything else! On the other side of NW8 is Marylebone where you have museums, cafes, the high street and so much more. Little Venice canal is perfect for walks in any season. It really is beautiful,(although full of tourists during the summer making it a little tight for space)! St John’s Wood is my personal favourite, local cafes as well as chains which I do prefer most of the time but also has a lovely high street and park. Having worked in and attended primary and secondary school in the area, I can attest that the schools in the area are brilliant. There are many to choose from and they are all very good.
Transport
Access to the underground is a 10 minute walk for Edgware Road station and 15 minutes for either St John’s Wood or Marylebone station. Many buses all around the area with a variation of routes. A cycle route is also nearby on Little Venice.
Community
Parking availability is usually fine. Bin collection is regularly and very good. My building is the only one on my street so we have minimal traffic noise. It’s a building of mainly families and no students. A lot of the area is mainly families that have lived in the area for many years. Not a lot of students.
Amenities
Really good quality of local restaurants. Many different types of cuisines in the area ranging in price. Very good independent cafes but there are also many chains such as Pret, Starbucks, Nero etc. Great open spaces such as parks, Sheldon Square, Little Venice canal.

At John’s wood is nice to walk and there is nice cafés there, and the proximity to the city is wonderful as you can walk to Oxford street.

It is well communicated. We have the jubilee line ten minutes walking from here, and you can definitely walk Oxford street or Camden l. There is always buses running around the area but the traffic horrible sometimes

There is a bus stop next to my street and at the end of it there is a Tesco and a few delis shops

Well, the area is seen as a residential posh area and it is true. There is a few council states around but most of the streets are full of posh and expensive houses. St Johns wood is very popular for wealthy people and they don’t doubt to buy an overpriced coffee. There is a couple of pubs around the area but extremely overpriced. On the other side of th road there is church market street full of cheap fruit and vegetables stands, but with dubious quality.
