The heart of haringey

I don’t like that it is being gentrified, the poor are slowly being pushed out. For example I have lived her my whole life but would be unable to afford a place here because house prices have risen. As a result it means I would have to move further away if I decided to buy a place near my parental home. I also feel that it is sometimes unsafe at night especially by the station and would like there to be more surveillance.

Transport

Very good transport links, a bus garage, one tube line and one British rail line within 5 minute walk of eachother. There are no problems with travel.

Community

Parking availability is good as we have resident permits. There is minimal traffic noise and also asbos. There are mainly renters renting rooms rather than houses on the street so I don’t really know who my neighbours are. Sometimes that can mean the street lacks a sense of community. As house prices are too high, it means that most people are unable to buy in the area meaning there are a lot more converted flats.

Amenities

There are many shops available in my local area as well as good transport links. We have an underground station on the Piccadilly line as well as British rail (Hornsey). I would split my area into 4 sections. We have Green Lanes which have great green grocers, a pharmacy which opens until midnight and local Turkish restaurants. There are also a couple of banks and post offices. In terms of cafes, there are a few where you can get a decent breakfast (avocado and toast kind of place not greasy spoon). There is also a small retail park with Homebase, Poundland and Sainsbury’s. If you travel further down the same road you will reach Wood Green. Here there are some high street shops, some more banks, health food stores as well as the shopping centre. Here you can also find a good food hall where you have a good fishmonger, butcher, specialist Asian shop and green grovcers. There are also a fair amount of clothes shops including primark and new look. In terms of entertainment you also have a cinema and Wetherspoon not far away. Turnpike Lane is also not far away and here you can get hold of a range of amenities such as ethnic food shopping, butchers, restaurants such as Indian, Turkish and Mauritian cuisine as cheaper fast food (dirty chicken and chips) which always hits the spot. On the other side of my road, you are not far away from crouch end which is a short walk. Completely different to the other places that I have mentioned, very calm and middle class, lots of organic shops and posh coffee shops. Great for brunch. Also a nice walk with boutique shops. You can also walk towards Alexandra Palace which is a great walk and place to run, walk or take the children out. I think living in this area, we have lots of great clothes shops, supermarkets, library, community centres, fast food places and green grocers. I feel the thing which is lacking in the area is safety. There are occasions where I feel unsafe and see some things in the local park which I wish was not there. I think there should be less betting shops. I think there should be more policing on the streets. I would like to see more being done for the community including the elderly and young people. It would be better if there was more of a sense of community. I feel that half of Wood Green high street is not as lively as the other half and a lot of shops have closed down (M and S, peacocks, Dorothy Perkins, Maplin) and these have been replaced with cheap brick a brack stores.

Everything you need within walking distance!

Overall, I really like living here. I love the sense of village/community that you get and I cannot stress enough how important this has been throughout COVID19 lockdown. I consider a huge perk having everything within walking distance and not needing to go Central. I would say the area is really trendy but relaxed, not too posh to the point that makes you feel uncomfortable. Loads of houses have gardens so pets are welcome I guess, and children have every facility they need. Crouch End feels really safe.

Transport

I would say the transport links is pretty good, although the closest tube, Finsbury Park, is around 30 mins walk (10’with a bus) I would say you can easily reach Central with buses, there’s a bus that take you from the heart of Crouch End all the way to Trafalgar Square! There is an overground which is very convenient as well, and Hornsey and Alexandra Palace train station are not too far either, making it good connections for travelling to airports and other station. There are quiet a few cycle routes, I have definitely seem improvement over the last years, as well as chargin stations for electric cars. As a young woman living alone I never had a problem with night buses nor with avoiding my any specific area, I feel very safe here.

Community

Parking availability is pretty good I heard from people who drive, bin collection is good (we’re getting better with recycling and we have asked for a food bin to the Council and got it delivered the same day). I would expect a 50-50 owners and renters but it is just a perspection. I would say very few students, mostly young couples snd people in their 30s.

Amenities

Crouch End is a very vibrant little villagey neighbourhood filled with creative and chill vibes. Super wide range of ethnic restaurants, charity shops and independent shops. You can find all kinds of food from Vietnamese, to Italian, Greek up to Indian including loads of vegan and plant options a stone’ thrown away from your house. The choice of supermarkets is great as well as cosy indie cafés for brunch or just the best coffee in town. There are beautiful parks, cinemas, a little theatre, churches, libraries, recording studios and everything you need within walking distance we no need to ever go Central London. This has honestly been an invaluable perk during lockdown.

Great potential not enough policing

The mall and the underground service I like the think I hate are the disgusting people on the street from thieves and drug dealers

Transport

Very good Turnpike Lane good to the city bus are ridiculously slow to be so close to the city no cycling lanes and traffic is dangerous must be 20miles all over London

Community

Good parking not very busy bin collection decent average streets are not clean though anti social behaviour is thru the roof disgusting more police should be involved

Amenities

Well 25 minutes from Alexandria palace one of the most beautiful view of London Turnpike Lane and Wood Green high street area need way more policing. Turnpike Lane park need more policing and all surrounding area east from N8 things gets better towards seven sisters and south towards Finsbury Park. No cycling Lane towards Manor House very dangerous traffic if you are a cyclists and commute from N8 missing cycling routes too much traffic no 20miles not enough policing Wood Green Turnpike Lane has great potential because you have everything but it’s as I said left rotten
