Nice place to live. Upmarket. Generally safe if you have your wits about you

Nice place to live. Upmarket. Generally safe if you have your wits about you (but not as super safe as it was 10 years plus back). Great place to be with kids or pets. Holland Park and Kensington Gardens / Hyde Park max 7 mins walking distance. Design Museum on Ken High St and all the major museums in South Ken just a cab or bus ride away

Transport

Great transport links whether by road, rail, tube or bus. Just be prepared for a zone 1-5 type journey time if you’re venturing way out east or south east. If you’re stuck for cash and travelling to Gatwick or Luton take advantage of EasyBus early cheap fares from Paddington, Fulham Road etc - could save you a bundle avoiding Gatwick Express rip offs

Community

Living 3 mins from the tube with access to 3 lines. Buses aplenty again within 3 mins walk. Quiet residential road of period stucco houses divided into flats. Mainly rented. I own as do others. We’ve got a nice community feel going on amongst those who make the effort and have been there a while. I jump started one of my less close neighbours cars the other week and I’ve been known to “police” the ever-present builders who often seem to appear without knowing when they can work and not. I can’t say everything is rosy all the time. We’ve known of the odd unexpected party in lockdown and sure there are occasions when one oerson’s view isn’t shared by another. But that’s life. Lots of resident parking, probably not enough pay and display bays for those working but there’s no easy answer for the respective allocations - every street has its own particularities. I like where I live. Friendly tree-lined street with amazing views of London to all angles from the rooftops. And I nearly forgot a local tennis club to boot. But you might be waiting a while on the wait list to join

Amenities

What’s not to like? Great transport links to anywhere central and easy access to routes west, north and south ie A40/A4/M4/A3/A406 etc. Easy access to Holland and Hyde Parks to walk, exercise, hang out with friends, take in a picnic, boat on the Serpentine, relax in Holland Park’s Japanese Garden. Writing this from Hyde a park across from the Diana Menitial Fountsin in birds eye view of the oeddaloes on the Serpentine in lovely summer sunshine. Shopping - Westfield London is 5 mins away by car or bus; walk it in 10. Waitrose on High St Ken and Notting Hill plus Whole Foods on the old Barkers site, and more than enough Tesco Metros and Sainsbury’s corner shops to keep your fridge stocked at a few minutes effort. For eat out Maggie Jones for English, rear of the Churchill pub for Thai including take out, Sally Clarke’s for lunch or dinner, The Ivy on Ken High St, Chakra on Holland St for Indian, Balaans. I could go on. Spoilt for choice. Lived between the two parks for over 15 years. Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Love the cosmopolitan vibe. Got some great neighbours. Just not mad about the million plus inundation over Carnival weekend.

a great place for families. Lots of people have pets!

I like the fact that W8 has lots of local shops - most things I can buy locally and I believe in shopping locally, if possible, to keep local high streets busy, and the specialist shops tucked away in local areas need our support. Kensington as a whole is a smart part of our great capital city, and I would recommend a visit. There are several schools in the area as a whole, although not in my street, and easy access to parks - Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, so a great place for families. Lots of people have pets!

Transport

Kensington High Street Underground is in the High Street, and has the Circle and District lines, if you walk "over the hill" or take a bus up Kensington Church Street you can reach Notting Hill Gate underground which is on the Central Line. There are also numerous bus stops and the "Greenline" also has a stop in the High Street. There are Several Bike rental stations just by the High Street. Also bike parking if you have your own bike. Currently the high street is being dug up to put in more cycle lanes. To park your car there are Pay and Display bays or the rest is for Residents Parking, NB this is 6 or 7 days a week, Single Yellow Lines are available for visitors after about 6.30 if you are coming to a restaurant for dinner.

Community

Parking - Pay and Display for visitors, or the rest is Residents Parking only, either 6 or 7 days a week. If you are a visitor coming for an evening restaurant, then you can park on a single yellow line after 6.30 Bin collections are twice a week in RBKC (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea) and the streets are generally regularly swept and clean. There is traffic noise on the main high streets, but the sides streets are generally quieter and calmer. The street I am on, which joins Kensington high street is mostly family homes, nearby there are lots of blocks of "mansion flats" and also some modern apartment developments. This is a very international and cosmopolitan area

Amenities

W8 is just off Kensington High Street with a full range of shops - including a great selection of sports shops - for every sport - you can get kitted out. We also have plenty of sensible shops for buying useful things, and several major food stores - including Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Whole Foods. Nearby along Kensington Church Street there are plenty of small fashion and specialist shops. It is a clean and smart area and very welcoming. Just along the High Street is Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens, and to the West is the Design Museum, we have lots of local restaurants and eateries, and great pubs in some of the side streets nearby. W8 area also has Holland Park with the famous Japanese Garden - a haven of tranquillity, as well and lots of space to walk and enjoy. The Open Air theatre is currently closed, but hopefully it will open again next year.

The high Street is in need of regeneration as it has suffered with Westfield opening up a couple of years ago.

I dislike the fact that there is no cinema. There are pets s and children. It is quite safe although there was a mugging. The high Street is in need of regeneration as it has suffered with Westfield opening up a couple of years ago.

Transport

The transport links are good. Several bus routes regularly stop by. There is a good tube service but the tube station does NOT have a lift or escalator. It can get very busy especially during rush hour.

Community

The people who live on my street are all owners and some are serviced apartments. A lot of families live on my street. There is a tiny , pocket handkerchief sized garden. It is a relatively quiet area very near to good transport links and local amenities.

Amenities

There is a park which is very popular called Holland Park. That has a playground. There is no cinema but the shops are quite good although a lot of them have shut down. We like any other area have been affected by COVID -19 so social distancing is in place. There are gyms but no high class restaurants just your average McDonalds.
