Like the fact the overall residents here are polite, and feel educated and are all willing to follow when new guidance are released by the government, therefore feeling relatively safe living in the area in general. The area is quite convenient in terms of buying essentials and traffic, and student and child friendly, quite pet friendly considering there’s a park nearby and a lot of residents actually have pets with them. Would be great if there’s a cafe nearby, or potentially have a GP clinic as well.
Transport
Quite close to both Angel and Old St tube stations, and walking distance to King’s Cross St Pancras. Very convenient for long-distance and international travel (EuroStars and trains to Gatwick Airport, or tube to Heathrow). Have access to buses as well (especially 205 which crosses East to West London). However, not as useful during the pandemic with concerns during the rush ours and public transport in general, ended up buying a bike for myself.
Community
Quite a space space to walk at night, with bright streetlights and large roads. Have bins every few meters which is convenient, and the fact that bins contain both general waste and recycling is a plus. City University and a nursery school nearby, therefore quite a lot of student accommodations and safe-guarding features such as CCTV around. Mostly renters in the building, especially those working in the City or Liverpool St. The average living age is tilted towards the younger generation, from university students to mid-40s working in the City.
Amenities
Within walkable distance to Angel (With all the restaurants, shops and supermarkets), and Old St station. Quite convenient, but nothing exactly nearby apart from McDonald’s and Co-op. May be convenient for students studying at City University. No GP clinics nearby is something that could be improved.
London’s most desirable postcode
I like the fact that N1 is very central, but still has quite a town-like feel to it (i.e. the atmosphere here is very different from that in the City). I also love the wide range of shops, parks and wining/dining spots in this area. It’s very hard to get bored here! Also just lovely to live in such a beautiful place with such stunning architecture. Even just a walk around the block is a treat for the eyes! There’s not much I dislike, although I will say that there is a slight lack of diversity here (i.e. residents are predominantly white and middle-class, and these are the people whose needs/budgets the local establishments tend to cater to). Lack of big green spaces, as mentioned before, but the little parks dotted around the place, as well as the canal, mostly make up for this. In general, N1 has quite a trendy, upmarket atmosphere, without being too alienating to those who don’t fit into the “white, middle class” bracket. Lots of students and young professionals live here, and the layout of flats (which tend to be in converted houses, rather than apartment blocks) allows for more mingling between neighbours. Some areas, such as Essex Road, have a slightly less gentrified feel to them, but this is quite refreshing, and not something I’d necessarily want to see changed any time soon. This area is definitely suitable for children and pets, and I almost never feel unsafe here, even when out and about late at night. Streets are well lit, and crime rates are, as far as I know, relatively low. Overall, it’s a joy to live here, and I’d recommend this area to anyone!
Transport
Regular and reliable buses (including night buses from places like Victoria), and plenty of stops, so you won’t usually have to walk too far. Angel tube station is within this postcode, and is on the Northern line (usually reliable, efficient and clean, but best to avoid during rush hour). Essex Road (also in this area) is a National Rail station and is also on the Northern City Line (handy for commuters). Highbury & Islington station is also within walking distance and is on the Victoria and Northern City Lines, as well as being served by two Overground lines. National Rail trains depart from here too. King’s Cross and St Pancras International both a short walk from this area. No cycle lanes on the main roads, so if you can’t use the quieter side streets, you’ll just have to brave it and share road space with the buses. (Some accidents have happened in recent times, though, so there is definitely work to be done here.)
Community
Free parking all day Sunday; bins collected once a week; low crime rates and generally very safe atmosphere; two pubs on the street, plus a pharmacy, GP surgery, launderette and two corner shops just around the corner. Totally shielded from traffic noise, and next to Regent’s Canal. The street is almost entirely occupied by renters, as I’m aware – mostly people in their 20s and 30s (students and young professionals), but some couples, families and older residents.
Amenities
Lots of great shops, restaurants and bars, and a nice mixture of chains and independent establishments. Most of the main supermarkets can be found here (including a Sainsbury’s superstore). Lots of corner shops, too, if you need to nip out for a bottle of milk. As for open spaces, there are many lovely parks dotted around the place (many of them hidden away down quieter streets), and Regent’s Canal, plus the New River Walk, offers tranquil walking routes. Particularly popular areas include Camden Passage (home to dozens of indie shops and eateries), Upper Street (again, lots of great pubs and indie establishments to be found here, plus some great charity shops), and Regent’s Canal (especially busy in the summer, when locals come to enjoy evening drinks by the water’s edge). There aren’t many amenities missing in this area. Some might be put off by the lack of big open spaces, but Barnard Park and Shoreditch Park should be enough to satisfy most residents’ needs – and besides, Hampstead Heath, Victoria Park and The Regent’s Park are just a short tube ride away.
Calm and residential with not a lot of things to do.
Calm and residential with not q lot of things to do. A bit too quiet for me and not really attractive but at least we can relax
Transport
Good access to the subway and a lot of santander cycles available as well. Huge problem of congestion ar all stree around 5pm everyday. Not taking the bus
Community
Good availability of bins and regular collections, no problem with that. Traffic is a bit important so a lot of noise coming from that. Mostly renters, families and adults but no students
Amenities
Small local shops not offering a wide range if products. However a few small independent shops really nice to discover and enjoy. We miss a big shop to find some specific things
Probably not the safest area for children,
