Small central street with few hidden gems

I feel quite safe here although at night it tents to get a bit rough with all the homeless people passing by or just drunk people. I would like to see the area gain more coffee shops, parking and recycling bin access. Whenever I feel like going to the market, I head few minutes to kings cross or coal drop yard. I like my area for it’s accessibility and connection. I dislike it for being quite dirty.

Transport

I have about 4 mins walk to Kinga cross or Euston which is really convenient for me. There’s a great bus link but the rush hour makes the area a bit busy but I don’t mind that at all. There’s regular buses and now there are bike lanes that keep appearing which is lovely to see

Community

I live on Chalton street. There are not great parking availability and the annoying thing is that they announce “works” on the street which never happen so that means we have to move the car somewhere else. My car was tolled because of that! It’s very annoying. The street is quiet, although during peak hours the taxis like to drive through this street and that creates traffic as the road is narrow because of the parked cars. There aren’t many bins! No recycling bins in my building which is a huge minus. People tend to leave the rubbish outside and the foxes get to them, ripping up the bags. It is not very clean street. I would like to see more recycling bins

Amenities

I live in Somers Town. There aren’t many local coffee shops which is what is missing in this lovely area. I like that we have Somers town coffee house which is a pub! It’s a beautiful, little pub with amazing food! It seems to be popular place it’s always packed with people who come to drink after work or at the weekend. We have a cheese shop on Chalton street called Cheeselo. They have a great variety of French to British cheese. She also offers cheese tasting and raclette night which I highly recommend. We have few corner shops but we lack coffee shops or a bakery. I would to see this area to transform a bit. I can’t complain because where I live is really central so I have couple of minutes walk to the amazing Coal drop yard or Camden Town. Coal drop yard is the best thing that happen to Kings cross. It’s totally transformed the area! Lots of shops, coffee places and restaurants! This is what this area needed!

So many little gems to discover

The residential area around Regent’s Park practice does need a little regeneration similar to the one kings cross is going through. The disparity in homes can be seen along Albany street where the ones closer to Regent’s Park are huge and clearly expensive while the ones opposite to road is less trendy and more practical.

Transport

Night buses is this area are plenty and regular as this area is close to Oxford street. Although sometimes it can feel a little unsafe around Warren Street station because of rough sleepers and people who will try to approach you

Community

As NW1 is near UCL, the area has a larger population of students. However, I have seen a large number of families as well. My building is right next to the road so sometimes the traffic noise and ambulance/police can be heard. But this can be solved with proper noise cancelling windows or walls

Amenities

I live in the area of NW1 that is a 5 minutes walk away from regents park and 15-20 mins walk north to Camden high street. Camden high street has two undergrounds (Mornington crescent and Camden Town) but about 10 minutes walk from each other. The high street also has 3-5 charity shops, a butcher, bars, poundland and a Lidl and Aldi opposite of each other! There is also a thai supermarket, korean mart and a general asian grocer (although a little more expensive than chinatown). Then if you walk southwards, you have Tottenham Court Road which now has the largest Lidl in central london, 3 more underground’s nearby, primark and a road that leads you directly into soho/oxford street/regents street area! It is so convenient. Even if you do not wish to walk, there are direct buses and 24 hr buses. I do wish there was a b&m closer though! Both soho and Camden high street area can be very crowded and lively in times of no covid which made the area fun to live in as it felt so alive.

Great for transport but little else

Definitely in need of regeneration! But again this differs hugely by street. There is little to no sense of community, or where it is it is very divided along age groups, and other such groups. It's a great area if one can afford it, but the reality is that there a lot of students renting in Euston.

Transport

Transport is great, but very limited to tube rather than buses because of London traffic. Euston is rush hour is awful though, though the one way system helps slightly.

Community

Parking availability is awful, but who uses cars in central? Bin collections are fine, but residents are messy with putting their bins out and flytipping is an issue. I think anti-social behaviour differs loads by street depending on whether it is ex-council. The street is mostly renters and students.

Amenities

I think it's quite busy amenities and hospitality wise due to the universities in the area. But a lot of it is a bit run down and old, and the supermarkets are lacking.
