The area is definitely safe, trendy, upmarket and a good place to raise kids owing to proximity to social amenities, parks, schools, libraries, hospitals, listed churches and in fact very historical places like the birth place of Charlie Chaplin, Oliver Goldsmith etc. It’s also a nice place to have and raise a pet. Well, everyone has got one with cats being the favourite.

Camberwell and in fact the whole of SE5 is just a stone throw from Central London and therefore centrally located with underground, overground, national rail, Santander cycle and buses literally a stone throw from every single doorstep. The area being near to Central London, in fact, about 2 miles is well served by night buses. The central location makes rush hour a pleasurable experience because there’s always another bus behind!

Being near to central London, parking can be a problem but then with well connected public transport who cares. Also, there’s always a Zipcar around the corner as well as Santander bike littered everywhere! Though on a major road leading into London, I must confess that traffic noise is not that bad compared to other suburbs near to a major city. The area is also not bad in terms of security so far you take caution. Being a predominantly student living area, you’d expect some anti-social behaviours sometimes but not one serious enough to invite a major concern. Think about, students will always be students!

New York is a city that never sleeps. If that’s true then Camberwell is a suburb of London that suffers from insomnia. The suburb is always lively with huge open Burgess Park, probably the biggest in London. The Camberwell High Street is centrally located and well connected to all parts of London. In fact, it’s less than 20 minutes walk from Central London. Living in Camberwell is like living in Central London but on a suburb budget. The High Street is never lacking in anything including restaurants, gyms, schools, library and every single thing in life that makes a huge city. The transport link is also on top as the Camberwell just like the rest of SE5 is centrally located to underground, overground, national rail, Santander bike and of course bus routes service almost half the buses in London going into Central London.

I love the atmosphere and mostly the transport links, that’s my fave part. Kennington park is also nice and green and offers a lovely area for a walk or to sit and read in warm weather. There’s some building work at the moment which is a bit loud, but otherwise it’s great!

The transport is amazing! Kennington is where the northern line divides - so it goes pretty much anywhere you need. If you want busses, there are direct ones to Waterloo + Aldwych, as well as busses to London bridge, Westminster and beyond. It’s so well connected. Walworth road also has loads of bus links!

I would say parking is a little lacking, but it’s ok because of all the transport links. It’s a super quiet and residential area so it feels safe and is great for couples and families. I would say not ideal for students as it’s too quiet to throw parties and be rowdy

The area is good for amenities in the sense that there’s a nice street of restaurants/pubs/tesco by kennington station. That means you can usually grab any groceries on the way home, and kennington is so well connected that it’s easy to meet others there. From Asian food to a quintissential British pub - you’ll find almost anything you want! There’s also a large Morrison’s on walworth road which has anything the small tesco lacks.

This area would be great if it went through urban regeneration, I feel like it needs more luxurious hot spots like shopping malls, restaurants and parks. Since the buildings are very old it doesn’t give that brand new appeal.

There are many cycle lanes which is good, but be careful you will be at risk of losing your bike to a thug. The main transport around her are buses, especially the P5 which goes through different routes. The nearest train station is Oval which is not bad at all.

The houses here are typically flats, nothing special at all. In fact the flats are pretty old are are dirty inside. The council makes an effort to keep them clean but have a hard time due to the graffiti and disrespect by gang members.

This area is very dangerous if you’re not familiar with it. Countless times I’ve seen people up to no good. Stay safe around this area. There aren’t really any top tier restaurants so I wouldn’t recommend looking around for any. The most you could find are your local chicken shops, or off licenses.
