Small central street with few hidden gems

I feel quite safe here although at night it tents to get a bit rough with all the homeless people passing by or just drunk people. I would like to see the area gain more coffee shops, parking and recycling bin access. Whenever I feel like going to the market, I head few minutes to kings cross or coal drop yard. I like my area for it’s accessibility and connection. I dislike it for being quite dirty.

Transport

I have about 4 mins walk to Kinga cross or Euston which is really convenient for me. There’s a great bus link but the rush hour makes the area a bit busy but I don’t mind that at all. There’s regular buses and now there are bike lanes that keep appearing which is lovely to see

Community

I live on Chalton street. There are not great parking availability and the annoying thing is that they announce “works” on the street which never happen so that means we have to move the car somewhere else. My car was tolled because of that! It’s very annoying. The street is quiet, although during peak hours the taxis like to drive through this street and that creates traffic as the road is narrow because of the parked cars. There aren’t many bins! No recycling bins in my building which is a huge minus. People tend to leave the rubbish outside and the foxes get to them, ripping up the bags. It is not very clean street. I would like to see more recycling bins

Amenities

I live in Somers Town. There aren’t many local coffee shops which is what is missing in this lovely area. I like that we have Somers town coffee house which is a pub! It’s a beautiful, little pub with amazing food! It seems to be popular place it’s always packed with people who come to drink after work or at the weekend. We have a cheese shop on Chalton street called Cheeselo. They have a great variety of French to British cheese. She also offers cheese tasting and raclette night which I highly recommend. We have few corner shops but we lack coffee shops or a bakery. I would to see this area to transform a bit. I can’t complain because where I live is really central so I have couple of minutes walk to the amazing Coal drop yard or Camden Town. Coal drop yard is the best thing that happen to Kings cross. It’s totally transformed the area! Lots of shops, coffee places and restaurants! This is what this area needed!

Central location with a peaceful street

The atmosphere is quite busy - which is perfect for me but I can understand that others would prefer a more calm area to live. But with that being said, this street is extremely quiet relative to its central location. The area feels safe to me as a young woman and student. The area is suitable for pets as it's so close to green spaces and the larger parks too

Transport

Many transport links close by. There are also multiple Santander bike stations which is very useful for getting around. Kings cross train station is not far at all, about a 10-15 minute walk, which is incredibly convenient. Bus and underground stations are everywhere too.

Community

I love this street because it is so close to all the things offered nearby on Camden high street, but so peaceful at the same time. There is hardly any noise, and it feels very residential. There is a sense of community as well because it's a little quieter than the main roads.

Amenities

Incredible range of everything! I very often think about how lucky I am to have access to so much and so nearby. Camden High Street has so many food shops (big and small), cafes, banks, charity shops, bars/pubs, and other stores. It's not far at all from Primrose Hill and Regent's which is nice for a break from the Camden hustle

The ups and downs of central london

I find it very useful that I have good transport links and all the shops I need within walking distance. There's also parks nearby to get some fresher air. I would prefer if the area was less crowded and safer at night, but it is a good place to live.

Transport

There are bus and tube lines in all directions, with stops within walking distance. I am also very close to the overground and have Santander cycles stands right next to home.

Community

The demographic is very mixed, from families owning a flat to students renting. I have not had any major issues, but there is some noise on a regular basis, whether from construction, nightlife or arguments.

Amenities

There is a great range of local businesses: from fast food to sitting restaurants from a variety of cultures, from economic supermarkets to wholefoods and organic produce shops. There is a great selection of pubs around!
