East is growing vibrantly

The area I live in is very close to trendy and up-and-coming areas. There are dog parks located in the area for pet owners. This area is very safe for pets and children, as there are small parks (which do require an upgrade or some level of maintenance. There’s a very large pool of schools to choose from for your children. I love the convenience and value of my area and home. It is growing and becoming more and more lively. What I dislike is the youth that may be involved in gangs and crimes associated with gangs. The community is doing its best to tackle such problems with the use of community centres, placed to help improve the community.

Transport

There are conveniently placed bus stops which are easy to get to and all within walking distance. Buses arrive in a timely manner, usually with a display located on the bus stop to tell you how long each bus will take to arrive to that bus stop. London transport is all connected so no area is inaccessible. Train stations are rather close to each other, so reaching a location that may take too long to walk or bus to can be reached via the London Underground trains (less than 5 minutes to travel from station to station via trains), train times can also be seen (as well as the service status) from screens shown within the stations. Some stations (including London overground stations) even support disabled access. If you’re not a fan of public transport, there’s an array of taxi services working in these areas. There has been an increase of cycle lanes and even cycle only zones for those that travel on bicycles. One thing to be wary of is the rush hour. Particularly in areas closer to Central London, it is typically advised to leave slightly earlier to avoid the rush. London is always alive, no matter what the time is. Night transport is always available to use, night buses run up until 4 or 5am while certain train lines tend to close just after midnight. Buses and trains are usually clean enough to use, but after a busy day, empty cans, bottles, newspapers can be found scattered in them. The seats are also rather dusty too. In terms of convenience, public transport in these areas are perfect and affordable with a fair of £1.50 for buses (including the use of the hopper fair, which allows you to get on any other bus for free within then hour), and trains having their price vary between zones (£2.40 from zone 1 to 1, prices go up from there).

Community

The street at which I live on typically houses various types of people. People renting the property, home owners, couples, but mainly families. Students don’t typically live in these areas as the properties are too expensive to rent for a student. Families mainly live in my area as there’s a range of schools for children that are easy to get to. The area I live in offers parking spaces which can be bought with parking permits from the local council. If a person isn’t able to buy one of these parking permits, they can find a free parking space nearby. There’s traffic in these areas but they tend to go unnoticed as it’s only the occasional car/bike that travels down the road. Bin collections take place on a weekly basis with community bins located just outside of our homes, this includes recycling bins and regular waste bins.

Amenities

There are various restaurants, bars, clubs supermarkets, etc. scattered around E2. I am situated in or near Shoreditch. In or near this location, there are various and convenient train stations that would take you to the heart of London and to the edge of London. Shoreditch on its own is very vibrant and an up-and-coming area. There’s the Brewdog bar located on Bethnal Green road, situated near boxpark which is beside the Shoreditch Highstreet Station. Costa coffee can be found on this road as well as a small but lively cinema called Rich Mix. The road stretching from Shoreditch town hall down to Old Street (including the branching streets) have various bars and clubs, Ballie Ballerson is one club which features an indoor pool filled with plastic balls. There are conveniently placed gyms/leisure centres and community centres placed near residential areas which helps keep up with events taking place near home as well as encouraging a healthy lifestyle. E2 offers a exciting restaurants, particularly Asian fusion, Indian, Turkish, African, Caribbean, Thai and more. Not forgetting brands such as KFC, Subway, McDonalds and a new German Donner kebab that will be opening up in Bethnal Green.

A great area, with all you need to live!

The area is really safe which is good for families. I like that the area is quiet and is so pretty (Arnold Circus, Columbia Road) However, I feel that it's becoming too trendy and its losing its soul at times, specially when we are closer from Shoreditch. But I wouldn't move in anywhere else !

Transport

The public transport is very good: Bethnal Green is on the Central line, there is also the Overground with Shoreditch High Street, Bethnal Green or Cambridge Heath Stations. There are a lot of busses, going to Central London, or other parts of the city like Kings Cross or Stratford. However, some bus routes have changed in the past years which reduced the possibilities, but it's still very easy to get to Central London in 30mn. I would say that more bike lanes would be an improvement for the area, specially on Bethnal Green Road or Hackney Road.

Community

My street is usually pretty quiet, even though being so close from Shoreditch High Street and all the bars and restaurants in the area. There is very few traffic on my street which is a positive! Most of the people living in my street are families or couples. Most of them are renters.

Amenities

I have been living in the E2 area for 7 years, and I can say that we have everything we need. There are a lot of local independent shops, which are great for presents, but there is also a good amount of grocery stores, which is very handy. This goes from the small cornershop, to the big supermarket, via off licence offering a good range of products. The restaurants are some of the best in town, we have a very large variety and it's easy to have a taste of different cuisine in the area, Indian, Vietnamese, Mediterranean and much more. There are also a lot of trendy bars and more quite pubs, which can accommodate people in their 20's as well as older people. There are also a lot of friendly coffee shops. We are also lucky to have a few parks, such as Haggerston Park, with the he nearby Hackney City Farm (perfect for the kids) or Weavers Fields. The most popular area would be Columbia Road, famous for its flower market and its lovely shops. Another landmark would be the V&A museum of Childhood, which can be enjoyed by everyone. There are cinemas, libraries, good schools and good medical facilities.

In need of regeneration. Not overly suitable for children. Safe enough for adults.

Transport

Shoreditch overground station 10min walk away, and massive Liverpool Station (overground and underground) is 10min bus ride away. Both these stations are reliable and clean.

Community

Bin collections are regular but sometimes homeless people steal stuff from the bins outside and make a mess in doing so. But despite that, there isn't much anti social behaviour. No traffic noise.

Amenities

Decent sized Sainsbury 5min walk away. Good bakery 7min away. Lots of restaurants in the same area: pizza joints, subway, coffee shops etc. Lots of bars in the area too, of different styles (underground, basement, etc).

Hipster area, lots of gentrification happening that pushes out small, old businesses.
