NW2 1BP is rated the worst nearby postcode to live, with a score of 3.85 out of 5 from 41 reviews. It’s a good area but as I mentioned before, it has a lot to improve.
It’s a good area but as I mentioned before, it has a lot to improve. I really like the fact that the supermarkets are close to my house and also the transportation is “okay”. The disappointing part is that people are not really respectful. I don’t think the area is appropriate for children but it is really okay to have a pet there. The area is really safe comparing to some other areas in London, so nothing to complain about that.
Transport
The area is close to buses but quite far from the main tube which is Kilburn station but close to the overground cricklewood. Normally when people go to central, they use the tube so that’s a little bit of issue because it’s quite far from Nw2. The buses are always fine, respecting the deadlines and they are really regular but when it’s rush hours the buses take forever to arrive somewhere where it could take half of the time when it’s not rush hour. We have a very good cycle route and it really helps when you need to get somewhere faster than usual.
Community
The street is good but the traffic noises are terrific. Every morning I wake up early because of it. We are really close to a bin collection point, it really helps a lot and the job they do is really amazing. On the street I live, I can see that there are mainly renters, students and random people sharing the same house.
Amenities
I live in a nice area, with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars nearby but I think it should have a bigger variety of choices because those venues are mainly for Arabic food and drinks... culture in general and there are not only Arabic people living there. Those places are really popular. Even with the lockdown we can see sometimes people around talking to each other and before the pandemic it was even greater. So it’s nice places I can tell. In my opinion there should be a little bit more options of restaurants, bars, clothing and shoes shops and cafeterias.
during the first lockdown, a local musician used to hold outdoor (socially distanced) concerts that the street would attend.
We’re a very communal area - during the first lockdown, a local musician used to hold outdoor (socially distanced) concerts that the street would attend. Theres a variety of Whatsapp groups, and everyone knows everyone and likes to help out, especially at the moment. There’s a lot of schools and nurseries nearby, and combined with the local park, makes this an ideal place for families or expectant couples. It also feels like everyone has a dog - you can always spot people out dogwalking and chatting to other dogwalkers too. Pets and children are pretty common. The only real disadvantage for me is that there’s not really many people around my age (now 20) which was annoying growing up, but the area has become much more social than when I was a child - not that it wasn’t social then, it just is even more so now!
Transport
West Hampstead Tube is a bit of a walk but is very well connected - same for the Thameslink and Overground. Buses are readily available and take you to a variety of places. Many bus routes, and the Jubilee at West Hampstead, run 24 hours on weekends. Rush hour gets a bit difficult - tubes are busy in the morning, and buses are awful at the end of the school day. However, other than that transport is fairly easy. The timetables are pretty regular and you’re rarely left waiting for transport.
Community
My street is mostly made up of families (often with young children) or elderly couples, and from what I know, primarily home-owners. Around the time of things like local fairs, the streets can get quite busy, but normally traffic is minimal, and virtually non-existant at night. Parking can be a bit more difficult, but you’ll usually find somewhere after a couple laps round the block.
Amenities
Fortune Green Park and the cemetery make for beautiful walks; a variety of independent restaurants and cafés; charity shops, pubs and bars in abundance. You can find all types of cuisine locally. Larger supermarkets are a small distance away, but theres many smaller ones (Tesco Extra, Sainsbury’s Local etc) readily available. Boutique shops (for clothes) and independent cafes and restaurants prove more expensive but definitely worthwhile. And there’s plenty of options for an after-work drink.
In this specific area the traffic is very strong
People on the street who do not work, who use drugs and often quarrel with even serious injuries and even people who have died from stab wounds
Transport
In this specific area the traffic is very strong but the buses and metro are very efficient. Traffic is created by the presence of various supermarkets, but also because many people are unruly
Community
My street is not too bad, no traffic noise and good parking, but nott all the people are quiet and reliable
Amenities
More or less all shops are now closed only Off licence and supermarkets are open. CMQ in general lacks something for the boys and the people under 30 years
They should provide more affordable parking or quicker public transport transfer.
