Affordable area with good transport links
I like how convenient the transport links are but this area definitely feels like it's in need of regeneration and perhaps becoming more gentrified. I feel like the area is relatively safe but not 100% as I know the crime rate is high, though thankfully I haven't experienced it myself.
The transport links in Lewisham are quite good - there are train links to many central London stations and trains are quite frequent. There is also the DLR which is useful and many bus links. Sometimes the traffic can be bad in rush hour, and certain buses prioritise school children (also in rush hour), but otherwise the transport links are quite good. I'd say a Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham would be a great idea but would take a very long time to build.
My estate has parking for residents, and the bins are communal which is convenient. The traffic can be heard from time to time but because the estate is not directly on the road it's not too bad. The estate has all kinds of people of all ages and walks of life, mostly private tenants and families with kids. There is not too much anti social behaviour.
My local area has a good shopping centre, which has a range of chain stores, such as H&M, Next, Tkmaxx, Wilkinson and Primark. It also has an outdoor market where mostly fruit and vegetables are sold. There are navy cafes and restaurants, of varying quality. Unfortunately, other than a small coffee cart which operates by Lewisham Station, there is no quality coffee to be has in the Lewisham Central area. As far as open spaces, Blackheath is close by and very nice. To improve the area I'd say we need more high quality restaurants, like Sparrow, and third wave coffee shops. Also, it would be nice if there were more independent, non-chain shops.
All that said it feels very safe and the community does look out for each other.
As with any area in London we do suffer from the usual antisocial youth problems. Pickpockets and bike theft is quite high. All that said it feels very safe and the community does look out for each other.
This area is served well by most transport method. Bus, tube, overground, borris bikes. Now there’s even electric scooters.
There’s nothing bad other than the usual issue with parking. But then again that’s everywhere. The age range is more towards young students and city workers. It can get quite hectic and noisy.
The most multicultural food place to be in. There’s something for everyone. From food stall to converted caravans to well established restaurants. Recently there’s been an explosion of pop up coffee shops. A lot of the fast food places stay open well late into the night. We get visitors from all over London.
Covid had made transport a little difficult but still accessible.
The atmosphere here is pretty good and it’s suitable for kids and pets because of the park near by
Covid had made transport a little difficult but still accessible. The traffic on weekdays is very busy depending on where you are going
Bin collections are on tuesdays and very helpful. Traffic noises aren’t that loud but u can still hear them a tiny bit.
The quality of the shops here are a solid 6-8/10. Shops here range from food shops to Bike shops, it’s very versatile.
It is a great area! It is being done up with new shops, cinema etc.
