I love living in this area. It's pretty clean and quiet and properties are generally well maintained. Schools are good, the open spaces accessible and the charm of the local shopping streets together with the transport links is what brings people here. Many people keep dogs, even the mess is minimal although occasional owners are careless with their little black sacks. The commons do attract dog walkers however there is a limit to how many dogs can be walked at any one time.
Transport
Transport links are excellent, with Clapham Junction a short bus ride or within walking distance and the Northern Line close by. Buses are frequent and with a range of destinations, it is easy to get about, however they are often busy . Santander cycle docking stations are in the area. Traffic is a pain however, sometimes it is necessary for us to use our cars. Many residents choose to cycle, there are many official cycle routes.
Community
Our street is a combination of rentals and owners, with families and young professionals mainly. Although there is a broad age range of residents. Parking is by permit Monday to Friday although it can still be tricky to find a parking spot near our homes. The bin collection service is exceptional with operatives extremely helpful and friendly. The street lighting is good. Residents do know each other and this can only lead to improved security. Anti social behaviour is minimal .
Amenities
The range and quality of local shops is amazing, as with the bars and restaurants. Northcote Road is a great place to shop , with smaller shops including independent businesses and chains and a street market at the end of the week and at weekends. Webbs Rd is also great to visit with specialist shops including, lingerie, sound systems, gallery to name but a few. There are also hairdressers and beauty therapists, more than one choice of each. In both streets the quality of coffee in the independent cafes is exceptional. This is a very friendly, family orientated area. The green spaces are vast and very well used by families and those seeking physical activity. Both Clapham and Wandsworth Commons have active groups of local volunteers who help with the upkeep of both spaces.
Balham, SW12 8PSBalham: Everything you ever need in a London town
I like Balham alot, it has everything you could possibly need from supermarkets, to restaurants and quirky pubs and cafes. Transport links are good and a sense of community here, particularly in the summer is where Balham shines when everyone is piled out onto the streets drinking and eating! Great area for young professionals as very up and coming yet feels like a town rather than London. Less 'concrete', feels like a safe area for women, young children. Great for anyone with pets as 3 large commons nearby.

Good - parking, bin collections is very often, no problem with overflows. Relatively quiet as just behind main road. Bad - As I live on a ground floor flat, people always buzz and can hear neighbours above and people entering/exiting building. Sometimes hear sirens at night. Mostly renters where I live but all quiet and keep selves to themselves, either young couples/professionals or elderly. Some young families nearby.

There is a good range of convenience stores and supermarkets within a 10 min walk: M&S, Coop, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Aldi. Short walk from 3 huge commons, nice to get a change of scenery and some greenery! Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Common all within 15 mins. Transport links are excellent. 5 mins to Balham tube (northern line, also a 24hr service), National rail links to central London, Clapham Junction and suburbs. Many bus routes into neighbouring towns are very frequent. Neighbourhood itself is a very friendly area, young professional demographic with some families too. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and cosy pubs complete with pub gardens too! Hildreth street is brilliant, its pedestrianised so that all the eateries open out their seating onto the cobbled road, farmers market and plants sold here every week. Only thing missing for me is, more food takeaway shops e.g. LEON, ITSU and essentials stores e.g. WILKO

There are a few takeaways that are worth visiting. Although, there are not many restaurants from a wide range that can be selected from.
Transport
There is a bus stop nearby the area. However, there is no Underground Station around the area which could be an issue for those who need to get into Central London.
Community
You can make friends with a lot of the locals as the majority are parents that live around the area who are welcoming. I find that the community within the area is nice as everyone always helps each other out when in need.
Amenities
For parents with kids, this area would be pretty good in my opinion as there is a Primary School and Nursery nearby. However, one massive downfall I think is that there are no supermarkets around the area locally.
